Theres about 5 stores in Boston that sell vinyl. Nothing I would really consider a good source for IDM stuff. The couple that carry any whats so ever have about 5-10 records total in a section called "Electronic Music" and thats where they stuff them. ----- Original Message ----- From: "andrew jones" <liminal18@mac.com> To: <idm@hyperreal.org> Sent: Monday, April 26, 2004 10:15 AM Subject: [idm] Stores: Boston, Detroit, Ohio, Seattle, etc.

There used to be an Other Music just a few blocks off the T at harvard square. But their website only lists the NYC address; can someone confirm that it's gone? If so its a damn shame, I liked it better than the New York store. -- Eric Sorenson - EXPLOSIVE Networking - http://explosive.net --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Well they have good shows here -- marumari/greg davis was here recently, saw prefuse last fall, etc. but the only shops that don't totally suck that i know about are used shops, and you can't really count on used shops for 'stocking' anything. -- eggytoast.com : eggtastic.com --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

in Ohio there is bentcrayon in Cleveland (www.bentcrayon.com) with a pretty good selection, then there's hotwax and clubhead (if its still there) in Cincinnati. there's a place called used kids in Columbus (I think its still there) but as for IDM on everywhere but bentcrayon, you're kind of out of luck. as for Detroit.. I understand there are tons, ive been to none of them, but ive heard a lot about record time, I'm sure Detroit techno is their expertise, but if it gets so many raves about it, it could have a decent IDM selection as well. f-stick --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

i think sound garden (www.cdjoint.com) is worth checking out in baltimore. their electronic selection has gotten better over the few years i've been shopping there. it does seem to lack consistency, but there is usually a pretty wide variety. last time i dropped by i picked up villalobos, donato wharton, tim hecker, fennesz. they have more beat-oriented stuff as well, along with all the usual warp suspects. things they don't have can usually be special ordered. plus they have used electronic, and vinyl too. the staff i've talked to are all cool. but perhaps most importantly: they're open til 12am thurs-sat ;) ----- Original Message ----- From: "Eggy Toast" <eggy@eggtastic.com> To: <idm@hyperreal.org> Sent: Monday, April 26, 2004 11:13 AM Subject: Re: [idm] Stores: Boston, Detroit, Ohio, Seattle, etc.

Oh yeah, i've been down there and seen it. never went in, though. I suppose next time I'll have to take a gander ;D I do recall seeing some interesting stickers and flyers up on the walls outside. The fact that it's at one of the odd ends of fells point should've been a tip-off. d'oh! derek -- eggytoast.com : eggtastic.com --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

ive heard a lot about record time, I'm sure Detroit techno is their expertise, but if it gets so many raves >about it, it could have a decent IDM selection as well. Record time has a small section of "idm" related stuff, but not a good selection. I don't know if they really have a buyer that stocks it. In most cities I've been to, the best "IDM" store is also a multi-genre indie shop that carries vinyl. Most dj/rave scene shops i've been to didn't cover it too well. The only place that really carries any "IDM" in pittsburgh (aside from my distro) is a place that is mostly known as an indie rocker spot. They also mostly carry the crossover stuff or stuff that gets sufficient hype or cmj coverage. - cutups --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
