I have just listened to Gimmik's latest EP "Rhythms Der Stadt" and I am knocked out! Really excellent music, one of the most beautiful and emotional records I've ever heard. Slightly distorted mid-tempo beats combined with lush charming melodies and occasional spoken vocals in German on the background. Some tracks are beatless, but no less emotional and melodic. If you find modern IDM boring and lacking soul and emotion, this one is for you :) I also want to compliment Bomb The Bass & Lali Puna "Clearcut" single on Morr Music. I've always been a Tim Simenon fan and I'm very glad to see him in the IDM world. Actually, this may be not really IDM - there's no DSP abuse and ultra complex rhythmic structiures, just a rather simple break beat, a bass line, some pads and a nice voice, but the result is perfect. The original track is very nice and catchy and all the mixes are good (arovane and christian kleine versions are probably my favorite ones). It'd love to hear more from this colloboration, a Bomb The Bass / Lali Puna album could be wonderful. Nick.

How is this album? I like Slow Motion Process and his earlier 12"s, but both the cd and vinyl of the new one are $20 at the store, and I've got such an overwhelming mound of that 'mellowish-melodic-pretty with nice beats idm' that it better be really good if I'm throwing down that much on it. Do I really need it if I already have the earlier stuff?

There's only a track or two that is really in the same vein as the (great) _Slow Motion Process_ / (flawless) _Links Berge, Rechts Seen_ material. The rest of it cuts some new ground with some frantic drill workouts and a few more contemplative ambient pieces. (This by the way was another great order-from-the-label experience for me. You don't need it at all. It's exactly 'good', not a touch more. By the way, does anyone else think that the drumprogramming on track 1 (cricket) is embarrassingly bad, unintuitive and uninteresting? Good melody spoiled... And the robot-voice in the beginning of Booga annoys me beyond belief. - visa ----- Original Message ----- From: "Albers, Brian" <BAlbers@premiereradio.com> To: <idm@hyperreal.org> Sent: Tuesday, February 10, 2004 10:29 PM Subject: [idm] gimmik
