Man, I've just been at this seminar [ by http://www.musically.com ]in a posh London Law Firm all about Music Licensing on the Internet with players from major labels and boy do they so not get the internet. It was so evident it was about they money for a lot of them, whereas for other it was about survival. It was most definitely not about the music. on 16/10/03 9:33 pm the person going by the name pietrobot at pietrobot@digitalnimbus.com spake :

I was at the same seminar. I'm the person that Jim Griffen, ex CEO of Geffen Records was talking about who organises the London "pho" dinners. Pho is a newsgroup that has a lot of high profile lurkers including lawyers, mobile, WIFI, dotcoms, vps of new media, publishers, A&R types, BBC, and most everyone from the online legit subscription/ala carte download community. For the last two years, I've met a lot of people on the pho list who are record company execs in high places who do know what time it is. And are frustrated by all of the issues that have been tying their hands. There are people at indie labels who also know what's happening. Denton Wilde Sapte are one of Europes best known intellectual property law firms - you can find readable news on their website - although you might not agree with everything that was said by the people on the panel - at least it got those people talking. That's all I'm going to say and the above opinions represent my own views. nH At 10:00 pm +0100 16/10/03, Muffin wrote:

I buy and search for music revelations online. I am ever in the quest for the most comprehensive electronica/IDM site in the online world. I have my favorites,: - For finding info on artists and generally good links to similar artists, I turn to Epitonic.com. - For vinyl, Boomkat.com has it down. - Warp.com has also quite an extensive collection of artists even beyond their label, but in their same realm of sorts. What are your favorites? --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

I'm happy to second that - AMG is a wonderful source of information, tracklists, labels & publishing year, reviews, background info, cross- referencing, cover art... it's all there. http://www.livejournal.com/users/lawrencelessig/ this guy is probably the smartest person in US now, just think about it along the lines that technical progress fully depends on how much green light WEB will get from the government. And file sharing will most likely be the major type of transaction in our human civilization pretty soon the sooner the better __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? The New Yahoo! yeah I took a class with Lawrence Lessig @ Harvard summer of 2002 - the Berkman Center for Internet Law & Society. However, shortly after, Lessig lost the Eldred case in front of the Supreme Court. And he's written 2 very deep books on Code. Anyone interested in the latest academic thinking on copyright post Napster - here: http://cyber.law.harvard.edu/home/ and look on the right hand side for the GartnerG2 Report. nH (apologies for the otness of this post) At 9:51 pm -0700 17/10/03, svin wrote:
