Couple of micro, or smaller reviews. Prefuse 73 : One Word Extinguisher In a word, dope. Excellent and all that too. I still maintain Vocal Studies is an excellent piece of work, and this is just better. Scott certainly seems to be maturing at a great rate, and I hope we see more and more excellence from him. He deserves to be huge, but as someone said, won't because he's so good. Nice interview with him at pitchforkmedia.com too. Amon Tobin : Verbal Remixes You should buy this. Why? Well, the Kid 606 remix is a good enough reason IMO, but the Boom Bip and Prefuse versions are also ace. I've never given the last Tobin album much play time (due to lack of time, not lack of interest) and I will be revisiting it shortly. Shitmat : Stealing Gabba Oh lovely! So much energy, and the best use of bagpipes in ages. Out and out fun, and I could imagine Aphex spinning it. Original Hampster : Ain't nuttin' but a G4 thang Picked this up on the strength of the Numbers remix. And it's good. Cheeky sense of humour and a good listen too. Is there an album coming out? Is there much other OH material out there? Four Tet : Rounds Uhhh, believe the hype. Genius. It's lovely. Very lovely. Take the first 2 albums, add them together, and throw in a measure of extra goodness and you know what you're getting. Broadcast : Pendulum Been waiting ages. One of my favourite live bands ever (anyone else remember ATP 2001?) and it's a nice return. Looking forward to the album later in the year. Senior Coconut : Smoke on the water Dreadful. Terribly dreadful. I sometimes can't believe it's Atom[tm] On the non-electronic tip, and for all you Mike Patton fans, the new Tomahawk album is great. Best Patton stuff I've heard in a long time. I skipped out on DJ Shadow : Private Repress. 20 quid - Should I buy it? Anyone? Too many records. -i. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Hey all, Just wondering if anyone has a copy of the Papa M "1999 tour single" with Up North Kids No. 2 and She Said Yes, or the old 7" eponymous "Papa M" single with the same 2 tracks? The track "She Said Yes" is one of my fav songs of all time ever since I found it online, and both releases are now out of print (I've emailed them and they don't have any stock sitting around anywhere). Pointers or kind souls who aren't too attached are appreciated ;D Thanks, derek -- eggytoast.com - eggtastic.com ----- it's in your grocer's freezer --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Yea... I mean we can go on and on until the end of time about the bullshit of the mainstream media outlets. I think most people are critical enough to know that "upcoming" doesn't really have anything to do with actual newness. Especially when its coming from a magazine like Entertainment Weekly. They've really got their finger on the pulse... (!) But congrats to Mr. Herren on his "upcoming" status because he's pretty hot shit. Most magazines out there are all around pretty shitty anyway. Sometimes its embarassing how poorly they disguise their supposed content as content and not just advertisements between the pages of real advertisements. Where is the editorializing? But more importantly... Have we discussed Jaga Jazzist on the list yet? I just discovered this stuff this week and I think its just fucking amazing. I've been listening to The Stix nonstop. Does anyone know if these guys play live? Oh... and also, I downloaded that Warp Works London Sinfonietta thing the other day. I think I ended up liking the Ligeti and the other 20th century stuff more than the Warp reworks. The remarks from the dude radio announcer were actually kind of right on. Did anyone really like it? Maybe I missed the point. -Aaron ----- Original Message ----- From: isaiah frizzell <maryxhelly@yahoo.com> Date: Sunday, May 11, 2003 4:17 pm Subject: Re: [idm] New choons

Oh yes - they do play live - I caught them the other month on a double bill with Burnt Sugar - both groups deserved their own night. JJ were brilliant, massive amounts of energy, great development of the tunes from Livingroom Hush. I haven't heard The Stix yet - didn't know it was already out in the UK, must seek it out. If you don't know the previous one, you're in for a treat. As to Lygeti - he's amazing performed live - one of my favourite orchestral experiences was his Requiem. Yep, another vote of confidence from here as well. really great stuff. I believe they do play live, actually I heard they played london reciently with a 19-piece band, including a woman playing the tuba! YEAH! Also, they are doing some side projects, one of which is called KILL and is the best crushing metal ever, but also sort of IDm-y and aslo live with vocals... I have a feeling they will be huge by the end of the year. DS _________________________________________________________________ Tired of spam? Their first album was called "Jævla Jazzist, Grete Stitz" which translates into "Fucking Jazzplayer/Jazzmusician, Grete Stitz". It wasn't released on any label, as far as I know, so you might have problems finding it. "Jævla Jazzist" was their name when they started btw, but they chickened out and changed it to Jaga. The production on that one is kinda amateurish, but the music is quite good. Best thing about it is the cd case, which features a pictorial of a guy spraying grafitti on a farmhouse, only to be chased away by the farmer. They've also released an EP called Magazine EP. Btw, to the people asking about live play; they're even better live on stage than recorded. I've seen them live ten or so times, and they've never disappointed yet. If you like The Stix, you will love A Livigroom Hush. It's more focused, and not all over the place like The Stix. The guy doing the percussion for Jaga, Martin Horntveth, has released some Venetian Snares/Squarepusher sounding stuff on Smalltown Supersound, that's worth checking out. regards, urb --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

I believe she's Martin Horntveth's sister. I reviewed the first Horntveth ep for the BBC site - it's enjoyable but not exactly groundbreaking - from the bit I've heard on the SmallTownSupersound website his second ep sounds harder and more enjoyable. They're EPs not LPs. Amazon.co.uk lists both though indicates Skull isn't out yet and I think they have their pricing wrong as they're trying to charge £12.99 for it. Fast Motion is £7.99.
