To me, the problem with Bemis' review isn't that he pigeonholes IDM artists (because this list implicitly does that every day), it's that he tries to make James out to be the reluctant crossover superstar--itself a one-trick pony in the world of pop music criticism. That and minor historical inaccuracies aside, the review panders about as well as it can to its intended audience. Heath dave jakhelln wrote:

Yeah, he admits that it was a silly name anyway, and I think you can tell he's been only using it repeatedly due to the history behind it (as there's likely already tabs in some music shops for "mu-ziq" vs. say "rude ass tinker." But, oh well. As with most electronic music, the names of the artists and tracks usually are a bit less important than the music itself, so it's not like we're losing mike's music; just the well-known name. oh well who am i to

Not at all - as a Greek major in one of my undergraduate lives, I thought it was pretty clever...even if most people don't have the correct font for the "mu" on their comptuers. jeff --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Do you read the list? A week ago, it was posted that the front page news section of http://www.planet-mu.com/ that, thanks to idiot soulseekers who have already traded his not-yet-released next-album, that he'll be retiring the name. wait a second here. eggy is one of the most respectful posters to this list i must say. clearly, he was referring to the fact that the u-ziq moniker will no longer be used by m paradinas because the new "bilious paths" album has already appeared on soulseek, despite his warning that such an action would constitute the end of u-ziq. i personally took no offense to the comment. however, i think mr. toast is pretty much the resident aphex expert on idm-l, so i'd be curious as to his opinions on the original article itself. dave "Decker, Joshua" <Joshua.Decker@FMR.COM> wrote:dave jakhelln said:
