Just to put a couple things in context for whoever reads these little discussions.. Jim Morrison was originally a very shy performer.. But as kent pointed out he was always emotionally connected with the audience even when his back was turned. About Miles Davis.. Why did I bring him into this. I don't know. He was brilliant, but when I think of creative performers who put very little emphasis on 'entertainment' I think of him. What is most important about live IDM in my opinion is turning an incredible style of music into an incredible scene. Ideally people should not only feel a connection with the artist but the other people at the show. Gotta get back to work before I get fired. /Josh

As with anything - depends who you read - a difficult man who fucked up a number of relationships because of ego and who knows what - Miles was also greatly loved by the vast majority of players he worked with. A great, human, being. Re: performance - the music was the important thing to him - he didn't want to play Jim Crow - back to the audience forces the focus on the notes, the interaction. yeah, well Roxy Music leads to the concept of what the Legendary Pink Dots are by way of variegated measures of subtractive and additive synthesis in that order for the first cycle. LPD are what RM should have been, even though RM are outstanding in their own right, Viva! is simply one of the most incredible albums of all time. The Edwin Jobson violin on If there is something can only be seen as magical. LPD leads to Current 93 which leads to Steven Stapleton/NWW which leads to Coil which of course brings us to TG, Psychic TV, and now to Autechre and Aphex Twin. There are more vines... Rock music isn't all bad. And Gescom's new one is sheer excellence Or how about Jane's Addiction, brilliant guitar/bass lines and Stephen Perkins' drumming, suffice it to say he could probably play most idm on a simple kit at that. Sensational use of the drum heads.Of course Eric Avery went on to do Polar Bear which if you play the first album on 45 is excellent ===== four to one, thy will be done __________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? I think the Beatles are dreamy! John's my favorite Beatle, he's so cute when he wears glasses. Of course it's off topic to talk about Rawk. But who among us hasn't at one time or another fallen prey to that Rock and Roll instinct? And what IDM artist can be really said to ROCK? The answer is obvious: DORMOUSE, STUNTROCK, BOMBADIER, Alec Empire's DESTROYER guise ... Of course no one can beat AC/DC. On Fri, 18 Apr 2003, donna summer wrote:
