Thinking of picking up something by an unknown (to me) artist, and I've noticed accolades for newies from Xela, Populous, Spark, and Esem. Would any of you recommend one in particular of these? Indications as to why (and relevant sonic reference points) would be useful, if possible. My IDM prefs are along the lines of Arovane, Bola, Funckarma, L'usine, Apparat, etc. Cheers, alan/beyond...sound ------------------------------------------------- This mail sent through IMP: www-mail.usyd.edu.au --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

I bought the Populous CD about month ago, and i totally dig it. From the names you have mentioned i think you would also. I kinda thought it was Boards Of Canada like, and i don't normally compare music to them, but it's all quite pretty and melodic, but still with some grit and a decent punch. To paint a fair picture, one of my friends with similar taste thought it didn't do to much for him. This is the perfect legitimate use for soulseek... see what you can download from each and then make yer decision. -thor --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Look into the new stuff out on U-Cover. The Din label and the Surgery back catalog is full of underrated gems. jeff --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

My fav new purchase is the Eight Frozen Modules album - thought process disorder [delusional malfunction]. Its just all over the place, very energetic, cut and mashed, timestretched and granulated melodies, good crunched drums, never just looping - always keeping your interest, mutating and changing textures. that'd be my recommendation! -thor --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

esem's "enveloped" is good. it sounds like something in between boards of canada and funckarma to me.. good beats, nice melodies. spark's "the robotic girl.." lp sounds like gimmik crossed with early depeche mode instrumentals. i can't get into it - it reminds me too much of other artists. i've been listening to veer's "lideskape" lp a lot lately. nice minimal techno / dub sound with a few downtempo tracks as well. - sean _______________________________________________________________________ Sent via Pace University's WebMail system at stmail.pace.edu --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
