Plone was dropped from warp (very disappointing) apparently because warp considered them too whimsical for the label! Plone was a ery good band. Wonderful analog synth melodies and such very nice. They finished the second album and then were dropped. The album will not be released unless they find a new label. If i could I would start a label for them. Ive always loved their sound. Apparently Warp also wanted to drop Broadcast as well, but have too much money invested in them. Ive always liked the different stuff on Warp but after hearing all this crap about dropping (and wanting too) really wonderful bands just because they dont have a sound like Autechre or Squarepusher, I am really beginning to hate the label. I thought they were better than that, but I guess they are just like any other asshole record label. I am positive that both Plone and Broadcast brought in money for them. edward --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Don't we all have record labels on this list? I know I do. Surely someone could find them with contact info and offer to put it out. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

I think that both the bands you mention were ones that were bought to the label by Rob [RIP] and that Plone being dropped, and the desire to loose Broadcast, may reflect a change in Warp's direction since Rob's death. But that's my idle speculation. It could be bollocks. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

I thought they were better than that, but I guess they are just like any other asshole record label Just to play devil's advocate for a minute- Just because you like a certain band, doesn't mean that everybody does. And just because a label drops some band you like doesn't mean you should hate that label, and certainly doesn't mean that they are assholes. Perhaps the guys at Warp still liked Plone, but maybe it just wasn't economically feasible or sensible to put out another record for them with all the other stuff they put out.

i personally never really saw what people liked about broadcast, it's ok, but nothing to rave about... same kinda goes for plone, but then again, i don't know that many people into plone... i kinda liked their first album, but in my opinion their ration of good tracks to throw away tracks isn't good enough to constitute buying another album.... now jimi tenor is another fucking story. warp dropping him was a good thing, because now he can put out more music... i love tenor, he's actually one of my favorite artists ever... the production, the sounds, the shit he writes is so out there sometimes i wonder what HE'S listening to.. his new album which was recorded with a full band comes out in two weeks. from what i've heard of the album, it's back to the Intervision sound, with a more 60s psych sound, and more melodic drawn out vocals.... they're taking early orders for it at kitty-yo... can't wait. -kiya --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

I was surprised when I saw a Broadcast track on an Austin Powers CD my sister owned. It was book something or other. Sounded very 60's/70's and was a decent track, if i recall correctly. I may have picked up a 12" single too, but I don't know if I ever listened to it... maybe I should. And I think the problem with Plone is that their Plock EP got rave reviews and was a really fantastic release, whereas the album lost a lot of the whimsy and wonder in place of weirdness and boring analog sounds. I mean, I own both, and I regularly play the EP but never touch the album. -- eggytoast.com -------------- commerce soon: eggtastic.com --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

well see, i also never liked Stereolab... and everybody i know from idm heads to indie rockers to hiphop heads love stereolab.. i just don't get it, i tried to like em, even bought a very old album, and a newer one, but just couldnt' get into it... why am i talking about stereolab? oh, because for some odd reason i lump stereolab and broadcast into the same catagory.. but i love jimi tenor.. i guess i like the freak-out-sex-free-jazz sound better than the moody-beaty-shoegazing sound. :) -kiya iamacopierltd. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

This is likely true. I spoke with Bob Stanley from Saint Etienne back in November. He is friends with both Plone and Broadcast. Rob Mitchell had been the one backing Plone. After his death, Plone had little or no support from within the label, so they were dropped. Broadcast is still on Warp, but their relations with the label are supposedly not as good as they had been. I hope Broadcast can at least stay on Warp. "The Noise Made by People" and the accompanying EPs were (IMHO) quite brilliant. As for Plone, I liked "Plock" and "Press a Key" EPs, but never warmed up to the full length. -Mike --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
