<<I picked up some nine inch nails stuff and despite how awful "pretty hate machine" was, the other stuff was interesting>> In my seven years on the idm list I have read a ton of absurd comments on music listening, music production, music theory, whats good, whats bad, ect.... The above statement was another one of these classic absurdities. alan flood _________________________________________________________________ Choose an Internet access plan right for you -- try MSN! http://resourcecenter.msn.com/access/plans/default.asp --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

seriously. i can understand how it might take some imagination to listen past the drum machine tones ,which have not dated particularly well ,but the production is so good and the playing and arranging and editing is so innovative and interesting at all times ,it really is a brilliant album ,and an important one in the way that electronic sounds infiltrated the mainstream at all levels (even country these days ,for crissakes! how bizarre...). although it isn.t my favorite nin ,it oughta deserve slightly more respect than that. .d: --- alan flood <guile133@hotmail.com> wrote:

How is it absurd? Sure, some of the sounds and production is OK, but mr. reznor has the whine-factor turned up to 11. And as far as overall production and design goes, it's obvious that it's his first solo album, painfully so in about 60% of the tracks. derek -- ------- eggytoast.com ------- you'll shoot your eye out --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

The thing that serious music fans never seem to grasp about some of the things they love is that it may not be all that great outside of the original context. I mean, honestly, I love old Detroit techno, and I would probably argue that it's timeless, but whether it's timeless to anybody who didn't really grow up with it is probably pretty long odds. Hell, even I have a hard time listening to the OG mix of 'Strings of Life'. As long as I'm making new friends, I might as well agree wholeheartedly with the whine-factor comment, too.
