i'll be the eightieth person to mention the words namedrop. the first band that i ever identified with was nirvana, like many of you, i'm sure... though strangely no one has mentioned it. i can't listen to them anymore though because i don't like that kind of nostalgia... it had its time and its place but there's too much baggage and sad feelings and all that rot. from there i found sonic youth and i kind of worked the no wave vein a bit and then figured out what they were influenced by so i got some can and neu and faust and some 70's punk and glam stuff... then i got into dub from the clash album sandinista... mixed in with all this stuff were things like bjork, talking heads, my bloody valentine, sun ra, alice coltrane, pavement, pixies, lots and lots of indie rock, and some abstract jazz here and there... i've still got much love for some of the west coast chronic-era hip hop i loved back then... i think it's way too hard to encapsulate all the music that you loved into one email, let alone remember it. the most important albums i've ever owned: bjork- homogenic arvo part- tabula rasa radiohead- ok computer my bloody valentine- loveless alice coltrane- ptah and the el daoud cat power- moon pix tortoise- millions now living... can- future days sonic youth- confusion is sex and if it hadn't come out so recently that i couldn't be sure, i'd add dntel- life is full of possibilities to the list... ask me in 2 years... hopefully i'll say the same thing. i've been off and on into electronic music since i read a review for afx's SAWII... i bought it but didn't really /get/ it for a while... then i bought LP5 from autechre, loved it. mostly though i like melodic glitchy stuff now or scratchy hazy noisy stuff like fennesz. also, i got into mouse on mars from being a stereolab fan... i still listen to all kinds of stuff... in fact, since my roommates don't really care for electronic music, and i put them through a lot when i'm making music, i tend to listen to a lot of jazz and indie stuff 'round the house. gregory ===== )the fawn )"i thought when i started playing )shows i'd meet a lot of really cool )people, but most of the people i've )met just want me to copy software )for them" __________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!?
