I certainly recommend these (which I bought rather than downloaded), though I just haven't heard most of the others. (I haven't been using my emusic subscription very well, being more focussed on Soulseek at the moment -- Solid Steel overload!) FSOL "Papua New Guinea -- Translations" & the re-release of "Accelerator" with the extra CD of PNG remixes are also up there -- definitely IDM in my book. Also Proem, PBO, Acceleradeck, Metamatics, almost all the albums on Ian Boddy's DIN label... it's a damn fine service. -- R --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

These are worth checking:-
quoted 1 line Electric Birds - Gradations> Electric Birds - Gradations
An interesting and quite varied album with a strong and clear sound design, including a range of influences from ambient to glitch to tech-house. Recommended.
quoted 1 line Gas - Koenigsforst> Gas - Koenigsforst
A walk through a dark forest with glimmers of light (haunted by the ghost of an obsessive compulsive 4-on-the-floor kickdrum). Intriguing.
quoted 1 line Makesnd - Makesnd Cassette> Makesnd - Makesnd Cassette
Sounds like minimal house for an installation. Groovy but groinless.
quoted 3 lines Pole - Pole 1> Pole - Pole 1 > Pole - Pole 2 > Pole - Pole 3
3's the best of these queasy excursions into studio ambience and electronic dub detritus.
quoted 1 line Andreas Tilliander - Ljud> Andreas Tilliander - Ljud
Very similar to the snd 'art-house' ;-) sound, but less dry and more developed. Clicks 'n' Cuts with more tricks and guts. alan/beyond...sound ------------------------------------------------- This mail sent through IMP: www-mail.usyd.edu.au --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

i've heard most of those releases and they are almost all worthwhile, but these are the best in my opinion... i've added brief comments:
quoted 2 lines Auch - Remix Tomorrow Goodbye>Auch - Remix Tomorrow Goodbye >Crane A.K. - Pink Eyed Pony
(these are both in the Force Inc minimal tech-house vein)
quoted 1 line Richard Devine - Aleamapper>Richard Devine - Aleamapper
very impressive 3D sound warping from devine -- not very beat oriented at all, kinda scary actually.
quoted 2 lines Electric Birds - Gradations>Electric Birds - Gradations >Gas - Koenigsforst
very lo-key stuff on mille plateaux ... EB is more beaty but the gas stuff is great. i still prefer Zauberberg over any of his other ones but it's worth grabbing Koenigforst too.
quoted 2 lines Kid 606 - PS I Love You>Kid 606 - PS I Love You >Kid 606 - PS You Love Me
(kid 606's MP releases which are decidedly more "mature", whatever that means... more on the techno side and less concerned with mashups or crazy breaks... PS You Love Me is all remixes from Atom Heart, Matmos, Pan American, etc.)
quoted 1 line Machine Drum - Now You Know>Machine Drum - Now You Know
hip-hop tinged IDM -- perhaps somewhere between Boards of Canada and Prefuse73, very good stuff
quoted 1 line Stephan Mathieu - Wurmlock Variationen>Stephan Mathieu - Wurmlock Variationen
excellent DSP piano interpretations on the ritornell label
quoted 1 line Phoenicia - Brownout>Phoenicia - Brownout
my favorite phoenecia release of all, their least accessible too, coincidentally. very tweaked sound...
quoted 2 lines Pole - Pole 2 (my favorite although all 3 are fairly similar)>Pole - Pole 2 (my favorite although all 3 are fairly similar) >Proem - Negativ (crunchy beats and minor chords -- done especially well)
quoted 1 line Otto Von Schirach - 8000 BC>Otto Von Schirach - 8000 BC
totally warped beats -- makes devine's "lipswitch" release seem tame and coherent. m.mercer :: design + sound design :: http://www.matthewmercer.com/ sound :: http://www.mattmercer.com/ _________________________________________________________________ Join the world?s largest e-mail service with MSN Hotmail. http://www.hotmail.com --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
