PRESS RELEASE
(for immediate release)
ALL NEW V.IOLET, JON VAUGHN ALL NEW
Slapart is proud to announce its two newest online releases, which represent
our first foray into the vast world of electronic music outside of Brooklyn.
Don¹t worry though, our next wave of releases will reaffirm our unrequited
love for the 4th largest city in America (That is if it were a city and not
part of "THE CITY.")

v.iolet "ack"
Washington, D.C.-based act V.IOLET is Jeff Surak, one half of the duo V.
with releases on Bake/Staalplaat, Public Eyesore, and their own label
ZEROMOON Recordings (
http://www.zeromoon.com). In the vein of
cut-paste-loop ambient industrial musics (the sound of late 80s Hafler Trio
is a good comparison among others) "ack" is a new 2-track, 17-minute affair
which makes adept use of all musical dichotomies: loud/quiet, noise/melody,
high/low. Surak develops his pieces around the delicate balance of these
extreme perceptual thresholds. Constructed from all manner of looped and
manipulated real-world samples: hurdy gurdy, percussion, cymbals, industrial
hums and crackles, etc. Very skilled electronics indeed.

jon vaughn "onset"
Through our association with online music juggernaut NOTYPE
(
http://www.notype.com) we dug up this release from the flatlands of
Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, which apparently is somewhere in Canada. JON
VAUGHN is a young artist who presently resides there. His work addresses
the collaboration/juxtaposition of 'different' concepts, aesthetics, and
media, approached from both a critical and personal perspective. As a
result, this 6-track, 24-minute tour de force runs the gamut of electronic
music idioms yet remarkably maintains a cohesive and truly singular
aesthetic vision. From dub-inspired composition to academic digital tape
splicing to pastoral electronics to subtly processed field recordings and
even on-point electronic improvisation, ONSET is a release everyone can
enjoy.
