While on the Numan kick, here's something you may be interested in:
In 1998 Beggars Banquet released whole rakes of remixes of Gary
Numan's 'oeuvre'. I've got mountains of the stuff which largely does
not really do the man much credit - stick to the originals, but here,
out of interest, are the details:
RANDOM - 'NEW INTERPRETATIONS OF GARY NUMAN'
a 2xCD set comprising St Etienne, Kenickie, Jesus Jones, Moloko,
Republica, Matt Sharp & Damon Albarn, Jimi Tenor, Dubstar, EMF, The
Orb, Underdog, Pop will Eat Itself, Bis, Gravity Kills, Magnetic
Fields, Dave Clarke.
RANDOM (02) MIXES OF GARY NUMAN
this time a single CD, feat. Robert Armani, DJ Hell, Mike Dearborn,
Dave, Clarke, Dave Angel, Steve Stoll, Claude Young, Peter Lazonby &
others.
This "techno" set is probably a better bet than the previously
mentioned 'indie/alt' double for the majority of IDM'mers.
Both of these are beautifully packaged - the double set comes in a
gloriously cool black box with a stylish silver symbol in the centre
and just stickered information on the rear; the (02) is in clear
plastic with minimal transparant inserts.
So, hell yeah, I'm keepin' 'em, even though they never see the inside
of my CD drive :-)
