Unfortunately, this is why I consider what little I've heard of Joy Division's music to be HORRIBLE. I'm probably committing treason by saying this, though... sean - i think the lens we interpret art though has a major impact on our impression of it. i'm not sure how old you are, whether you heard JD before or after you were exposed to electronic music or other forms of music. IF a listener were weaned on aphex, autechre, musik aus strom and morr, and then finally heard some joy division, i imagine it could sound rough and uninspired. (no comment intended about you, just a general statement) for those of us crusties who were coming off a steady diet of pink floyd, RUSH, greatful dead et al back in the glorious 70's, hearing unknown pleasures for the first time in 1979 was earth shattering. "love will tear us apart" is STILL one of the most powerful tunes i've ever heard, 20 years later. in 2024, one of our kids or grandkids will find a copy of confield and bitch that it's not complex or abstract enough. it's all about context. respect, Jeff Davis fon: 216.266.6969 phlow@earthlink.net cel: 216.533.6303 -----Original Message----- From: Sean Padilla [mailto:cockerspaniels@hotmail.com] Sent: Wednesday, August 07, 2002 7:00 PM To: idm@hyperreal.org Subject: [idm] i don't like joy division.
