All -
I read this on my lunch break in a local indie paper and thought you might
get a kick out of it...gotta love those prima donna musicians...
News of the Weird
"In June, after the British musical group the Planets introduced a 60-second
piece of complete silence on its last album, representatives of the estate
of composer John Cage, who once wrote "4'33" (273 seconds of silence),
threatened to sue the group for ripping Cage off. The Planets pointed out
that Cage's estate failed to specify which 60 of the 273 seconds it thought
had been pilfered; added band member Mike Batt, "Mine is a much better
silent piece. I (am) able to say in one minutes what (took Cage) four
minutes and 33 seconds."
In the same article was a feature about a turn-of-the-century painting of a
black square, which was created by a Russian artist in 1918 that was
purportedly estimated to bring between $2 mil. and $9 mil. at auction.
Great Stuff,
