Hi, Does anyone in the Twin Cities (Minnesota) area know if there are any clubs that play stuff even remotely IDM? I'm really sick of dancing to Top 40 crap. It would be cool to find a place that had a little more discretion in what they play. Even trance would be better. :) Any help is appreciated. Thanks. forcasa __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Yahoo! I just moved away from the twin cities, although it wasn't for the music reasons. The 400 Bar on the west bank has some good stuff every once in a while (had to rococo rot come through once, and marumari played there before, too). Cex has played at Bon Appetit in Dinkytown, although they usually do more local stuff. Across the street at the DinkyTowner, they usually have DJ's and I've heard Boards of Canada and analog bubblebath era AFX spun there, and they occasionally get some live acts (once again, usually local). As far as larger clubs, First Ave gets a fair share of decent music, although since fewer people listen to electronic music, there's fewer electronic musicians there in comparison to other stuff. I've seen Coldcut play there. Right down the street from First Ave is also The Quest, and I've seen Autechre there and also Vibert & Paradinas. Coming in November is the Morr group; I believe they're playing First Ave. It's worthwhile to just find a way to access the upcoming shows for all of those places. That's where most of the better music is played, and they either have websites or flyers that detail stuff for at least a month in advance. As far as actual CLUBS though, there's nothing. Clubs usually play dance music, and want to get more people there. They don't care what music is played, as long as it packs the place. Sadly, even if a club were to open in the Twin Cities that played more experimental music, it would probably close soon; my experience in the twin cities is that the people just *cannot* dance :) derek ------- eggytoast.com ------- with lather thingy --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Sorry, I found it in my email backlog a short while later. Thans to EggyToast. They're coming nowhere near Texas, of course. On the other hand, saw Mum last night - FUCKING AMAZING. Rapturous. Nautilis was a bit of a snooze, and Mission Giant (Dallas act) have the electro clash thing figured out and are much better than the last time I saw them. Very nice, hope to do something with them in the future. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Nautilis was beyond boring. I can't believe he played Polyphonix Tronix with the vocals off the hard disk...ugh. Incidentally, I must start... <rant> Who the fuck were all those people at that show last night? I saw two people I recognized, one of whom is a big fan of Mission Giant, one of whom was a friend from a few years ago I didn't recognize. Dallas IDM fans, stop fucking lurking! We could have a scene here if you'd all pop up and be counted or something! </rant> grrr. I didn't see ANY of the Stereo on Strike people there last night - probably due to their issues with Nautilis no-showing on of their events a while back. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
