OOOH if you're gonna mention the Bomb Squad then I want to mention Ice Cube, "The Predator". The lyrics are pretty sketchy sometimes but the music (and the samples) are just plain awesome. Yo I'm out, but I'll be back ... dave production unit wrote:

The Bomb Squad did not produce The Predator (I think Muggs from Cypress Hill did the lion's share of it). The Bomb Squad produced AmeriKKKa's Most Wanted, his debut post-NWA solo album. Muggs only did two tracks on The Predator, Tear This Mutha Up and Check Ya Self. The rest of the tracks are sort of clones of the Soul Assassins sound. Other production was done by Bobcat, Sir Jinx, DJ Pooh and others. I'd say the Predator is my favorite Ice Cube album for it's sheer energy. Others would say Death Certificate. --kev/entitee http://www.entitee.com/dnb --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

PASS ME THA FORTY DOGG, HERE COME THE SWAN DIVE, MY LYRIX ARE GHETTO SWIFT, I'M GIVIN' YOU JIMMY BITCH, SO WHAT COULD BE BETTA BITCH? The song from which all of those lines come is an absolute must have. It's on the 'Juice' soundtrack and is either a great argument for or against everybody owning an Akai and putting out at least one record. I think the only couplet that rhymes in the whole track is ...BITCH, ...BITCH? as above. If you like Wesley Willis, Like A Tim, or anything else in that completely unironic brain-damaged vein of music, you MUST hear Son Of Bazerk. Which reminds me, it's time to start a new thread. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Get off topic, stay off topic, I always say. (remember the IDM'est 'X' days?) I recently got into James Chance and the Contortions. Any recommendations? Always liked the Flying Luttenbachers, even better since the most recent album ('Destroy All Music' had too much Vandermark in it for me). I like to think that Like A Tim counts as No Wave, since his music seems to be all about fucking with people and trying to make it as bad as possible. Dykehouse's recent Karaoke DJ performance, esp. the MBV cover, certainly counts as no-wave based on the DC crowd response; if he had been a little less self-effacing and more Rollins it would have been spot on. My fave of all time, and in some ways the unwary flab (sic) bearer of the movement, is Wesley Willis, demented American genius. He's got a fucking Greatest Hits record. He's funnier than Brak. So who wants to argue about No Wave? Come on, everybody likes idiot noise crossed with pop! i'm going to have to agree that fear of a black planet is one of the greatest hip-hop albums ever made. i grew up on that stuff and it's a huge influence on me now. same with tribe called quest... were they mentioned in the earlier hip-hop discussion. low end theory blows my mind every time i hear it. . . but yeah... public enemy .. mmmm... i think i'll put that on again tonight. jon tenandtracer acre ----- Original Message ----- From: "production unit" <productionunit@hotmail.com> To: <idm@hyperreal.org> Sent: Thursday, July 11, 2002 2:10 PM Subject: [idm] hip hop (all time classic albums)

The hip-hop thread went around just two weeks ago, so let's try not to repeat ourselves, shall we? Believe me, if anyone wants to talk hip-hop it's me...anyway, I think the original question posed was in regards to controversial hip-hop. My 2 cents... AMG - "Bitch Betta Have My Money" DJ Quik - "Quik's the Name" Too Short - "Life Is..." Poison Clan - "Dance All Night" 2 Live Crew - "Pop That Pussy" Gigolo Tony Just a few that come to mind, all in that late 80's to early 90's dirty south ghetto vibe. JS
