So what's the difference between tech-house and micro-house. I had heard the term tech-house applied to most of the Perlon stuff (akufen, ric-y-martin, pantytec anyhoo) Anyway I understand naming is a "fuzzy" art ... um while we're on the topic I have been looking for recommendations for some good old fashioned "plain old house" i.e. body jacking ooncie-ooncie bolz-bolz poonchie-poonchie "Ooooooooooh yeeeeeeeah" post-disco pre-techno south side of chicago Warehouse HOUSE house, like the kind I used to hear in High School around 1987-88-89 ... Got any reccommendations? I know of Phuture, Adonis and some of the bigger names from back then but the bigger names aren't neccessarily the BEST if you know what i'm saying... anybody contemporary that's doing this sort of stuff would be acceptable too.... etc. etc. To get from tech-house to micro-house you turn the genre knob to the left until the samples are really short and the reverb disappears. Once it sounds cheap, you're golden. Conversely, you can turn it to the right and the reverb and delay swell up to ridiculous levels, creating deep-house. Be forewarned that people will find you boring since Larry Heard has already recorded all possible 'deep-house' tracks. You still have a chance with micro-house if you release an album tomorrow before Uwe Schmidt wakes up. Additional options include this-house and that-house, invented last week by more people who think that band names are coolest if they're hard to remember. The way I like to think of it, microhouse emphasizes the truncated samples, the porous textures, the creation of space within the track. tech-house, of course, can do this as well. tech-house is an interesting term because so many people rigorously avoid it, like john tejada. I initially included a passage in the Wire article talking about London tech-house, which at the time (2000/2001) seemed to be a sort of nationalistic thing, a very scene-y, pro-London vibe, around a few specific artists & the Fabric club. (cf old Jockey Slut article.) I haven't heard so much about it in a while.

if you mean contemporary stuff, there's still plenty of great deep house coming out on paper, africanism, glasgow underground, etc. etc. etc. if you mean classic, yeah, i could use some pointers too!

Say no more fellas, ha ha....since my recent switch to another list, due in part to lists complaints of me always ranting about cats such as Glenn Underground, Mark Grant, Chris Gray and shit, its kept me engulfed in the more meaningful/soulful side of House music. See those 3 names above dont-ja......get busy my friend....besides word in Chicago and NYC is that GU has some new tracks out that are blistering hot!!!!!!!!.....[apply ice to reduce swellin].......check Brian Harden too.... 2-shay.....
