I don't think anybody has mentioned it recently, but the new speedyj.com site is up. It's a bit of a pain to navigate, but it's worth it, because there is a ridiculous amount of music to download- a handful of exclusive tracks, lots of bits and pieces of live sets, a couple complete live sets, and almost 50 remixes done by many unknown artists as well as some well known and some of our favorites. Go for it!

Wow. The navigation on this thing *really* sucks. It took me quite a while to figure out that you have to *release* the spacebar before you click on anything. It is a real CPU hog as well. That animation on the neu's page is making my computer grind to a halt. I'm finding it difficult to download the high-quality remix MP3's because for some reason the designer has embedded them with WindowsMedia. I'm not sure how they consider these "downloads" since they pop the files embedded in a new window. Then for some reason the other (snd) downloads are embedded as Quicktime?? The old site was much better. This one is a pain in the ass. Very techy/artsy. Completely pointless. What a shame.... well, if the files are played with quicktime (as they are on my ibook), then you can usually save them. after the file is completely downloaded (the play-bar has turned grey), click the right-most arrow in the control bar to open the drop-down meny. choose "save as source" (or whatever it says in your language). i'm not sure i dislike this idea, either. this means i can preview the file before i download it completely. if i don't like it, i can always close the window. hs -- mind the oranges, marlon! --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

I read an article with Speedy J in a Belgian magazine yesterday, in which he says something like "I designed my site like that on purpose. I hate things that give the user what they want without having to think for more than a second. Users that can't find their way, don't deserve all of the free music, anyway." --Jan!, refraining from accessibility vs. design "discussions" --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

I know, I know. After all, it's hard to actually make a dime just in IDM -- It only makes sense that people in the more artistically inclined fields, like graphic art, would be interested in plinking out an album or two occasionally :D I do think it's funny, though, how many Designers Republics there are now :D derek ------- eggytoast.com ------- with lather thingy --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

actually, speedy j makes his money from music. not from the records themselves mostly, but from licencing it out to soundtracks and advertisments. if he was a designer foremost, i imagine he would have designed his own record sleeves (tDR did the loudboxer sleeve). hs -- mind the oranges, marlon! --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
