Well, for slowly evolving drones you should check out Time Machines. For some straight weirdness you should pick up Coil vs. Elph "Worship the Glitch." Finally, for some weird, plodding ambience, you can look into "Coil presents Black Light District." This is list of things that have come through our "New Bin" at the radio station I work at, that I have found to be really good. This lit is intended for your staff members, but I'm posting this here because it seems as though not much is going on... Venetian Snares "Higgins Ultra Low Glue Funk Hits 1972-2006" (Planet Mu) This is a fella named Aaron Funk, from Winnipeg Canada. His music is like a cross of heavy metal and jazz but cut up like no one else with heaping handfuls of the fastest drums you've ever heard. It's as if you dragged jungle beats behind a speeding Turbo Mustang, then had John Oswald remix it all. No, forget all this shit, just listen for yourselves! His music is unbelievable! "Higgins?" is his latest album released last week, and the subtle "Shitfuckers" is from a year ago. The later is way out of print, and is composed of almost all death metal samples with the aforementioned breaks, but with more death than breaks. Emperor ? "Prometheus: Disepline of fire and demise" (candlelight USA) So I'm sure you're all familiar with Emperor. This is their latest album, hard to get stateside. This is also the only Emperor CD in the library. For those of you not "in the know" as the street kids say these days, Emperor are sort of the epitome of Norwegian Black Metal. While some might think this scene to be more than a bit lunk-headed (what with the murders and church burnings and all) The music has been pretty great. Then there's Emperor. This album is easily one of the best composed, most fascinating, most astonishingly devastating while surprising beautiful albums I've heard in a long time. They incorporate all the elements we expect in metal but arrange them in such a surprising way, in ways not that dissimilar to the best prog rock. Chock-full of bullshit classical, garnished with some subtle electronics and loaded with every sort of ripping metal guitars and vocals imaginable. Oh, then there's the brutal drum work. A must listen!!! Last track particularly impressive. Tigerbeat6 wire comp A great overview of the San Francisco laptop scene, this one has all your favorites including a few from the eponymous 606. Check out new comers Stars as Eyes and Gold Chains. Lesser and the Blectoms always in fine form. Avanto 20001, (Avanto) A strange mix of very experimental noise works. Lots of surprises here, especially when played loud on the monitors, watch the mixer channel needles dance and bounce! v/ultra milkmaids "drone and unease" (zeromoon) Another collection of experimental digital noise and processing, this duo somehow makes their noise somewhat fun and a tad human. Geez n Josh ?"Nobody knows" (Millie Plateaux) (2002) The way-to-prolific Atomheart back with this moniker again. It's all religious and gospel music fucked with to interesting end. Very glitchy with a touch of psychedelia and another touch of 4/4 rump shaking. So much better than the last release. Dino Felipe - "As film Toby" (schematic) A surprising album of processing with some beats. Some sections sound like they were re-recorded by a crappy jam box. Lo-fi and very Hi-fi at the same time. Great packaging as well. farben - textstar (klang electronic) While I'm not a major fan of house music, I do enjoy a good 4 on the floor sometimes; this one has that in spades, but also is subtly layered with lots of warm noise and odd pings. Also long tracks that are fun to mix in and out of other stuff. Ove Naxx ovnx shoot accel core www.Accelmuzhik.net This one is from a friend of mine in Osaka, Japan. It sort of sounds like the last DJ Rupture Cd that came out but with more traditional Japanese music and a bit of heavy metal. I think it?s a great album. Very friendly, but also pretty hard. Tracks 4 and 10 are the most metal, others have more of an earthy flavor Kevin Drum Sheer Hellish Miasma Mego This one is very unfriendly. Very harsh digital noise, 4 tracks: 2 short, 2 very, very long. Maybe this one isn?t one of those that you play all the way through. But I do think it?s interesting. It has a sort of deathy feedbacky sound that seems to have been atomized sveral times digitally. It also has a lot of wild channel effects, but it?s sort of buried within the noise. Also, be sure to check the levels, it?s mastered very loud! rock, Donna Summer Advanced D&D WFMU 91.1 Very late Thursday or very early Friday 2am-6 am www.wfmu.org/playlists/su -(Listen anytime) _________________________________________________________________ Chat with friends online, try MSN Messenger: http://messenger.msn.com --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
