Say someone thinks everything Warp have released recently except Squarepusher's 'Go Plastic' sounds crap, and can think of a lot of music they enjoyed more that was released on independent labels. How should they express that sentiment if they want to avoid getting a bunch of replies attacking the straw man of indie snobbery? Just a hypothetical question, of course. ;) Michael - http://www.ampcast.com/jetjaguar --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

They should express it somewhere other than the IDM-list, apparently. Because, after all, only here could someone keep a straight face while calling warp a "major label." Sony, Warner Bros, Columbia... Warp... what's the difference really? Z __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Try FREE Yahoo! Well, Warp *is* a label, whereas Sony, Warner Bros and Columbia are not. They're publishers, who *own* several bazillion labels and sub-labels. -- Mark Stevens http://www.insertdisc.com/ --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Yeah, that was... if not the point itself, then essential to the point... __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Try FREE Yahoo! Heh... well, yeah, I had considered that as I fired off the first email. It is a bit rich to consider Warp in that light. In fact, I always think of Warp as being so small that I'm surprised they sign up acts from the likes of 75 Ark (Anti-Pop Consortium) and Thrill Jockey (Tortoise), who I always imagined to have much much larger audiences. Not that larger audiences is necessarily the reason someone would switch labels, of course.
