I just got the new Boards of Canada LP "Geogaddi" in the mail (thanks PJ!) and to my dismay they once again have pictures of children on the inner sleeves. I thought that children as a theme for the first LP (Music has the right to children) was interesting. Then I noticed they continued the same motif on their web site and in their 12" "In A Beautiful Place Out In The Country". Now that they once again have kids all over their latest LP, I have to wonder. What's up guys? Either get a new theme or leave the kiddies alone! WOW! I'm really not sure where all this animosity is coming from. I love BoC's music. I just think they need to quit putting pictures of minors on all of their art. By pedophile I didn't mean to imply that they like to have sex with children. Remember the prefix philo- or phil- means "Having a strong affinity or preference for; loving". I think you can at least grant that BoC love little kids. Whether it's regular *phil* kind of love (philosophy means "Love and pursuit of wisdom" and Philadelphia is afterall the city of "brotherly love") or more along the lines of the prefix phelia meaning "Abnormal attraction to" we will never know... I was just pointing this out. I'm ready to let this go, are you?

BoC's music is based on childhood. That wasn't just the case for Music Has the Right, it's a recurring theme that they've talked much about in various interviews. They've described their music as a refusal to accept adulthood. Perhaps the music has less to do with two older guys looking at kids all day and more to do with two older guys reflecting on a certain time in their lives. "A time when it was easy to dream and have nightmares."* The pictures of children are there to help us recall that period in our lives as well, so that we, the listeners, will make that connection when we hear the music. Maybe pedophilia is something you think a lot about if you're gonna make such accusations. I'm not suggesting that you're a pedophile, but you could easily have some personal issue that clouds your judgment on all this.
