So for someone who has never heard Bola before, what does 'Fyuti' sound like? I've seen people comparing it to 'Mauver' and 'Soup', but since I own neither I can't exactly get an idea of it. And am I confused or is there a Boards Of Canada connection with that group? The boards of canada "connection" has to do with both bands appearing on Skam long before anyone cared about who they were. They also sounded pretty similar when "Soup" and "music has the right to children" were out, which was around the same time. Sort of an electro downtempo thing with a nice groove. So it made sense that people who liked one would like the other. The newer stuff doesn't really keep up the same connection, but I like Soup a lot, and think Mauver was pretty good, too. If you don't have soup, and like the melodic side of idm with a touch of old-school, you should look into picking up Soup. derek ------- eggytoast.com ------- snappy one-liner --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

'Soup' is kinda new-agey, according to some people; a track or two are a little like some Future Sound Of London... pretty synths and determined melodies are what I think of, and with a distinctive sound. According to http://www.jega.madvision.co.uk/bola.htm he really likes Tangerine Dream. Which reminds me, I gotta check them out from my library sometime... Mauver is more mechanical-sounding than Soup, with more emphasis on rhythm. The first track features some rap by Dennis Bourne, with the voice processed to sound mechanical. Fyuti is an extension of Mauver, really - a more refined sound than Soup, with a track or two including vocals, a little more attention to rhythm...

Other than association by being on Skam and originally gaining recognition at around the same time, not that I know of. Bola is Darrell Fitton. Coincidence that his second album comes out around the same time as BoC's second is coming due. Speaking of Darrell Fitton, what's up with his self-reported other alias, Jell-O? Reportedly he was supposed to have an album under that name on Peacefrog or something. Not that anyone ever knows anything about the guy - a focused attention to the music as opposed to marketing that I quite respect... ===== .Adam http://www.damek.org/ __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? It's the best thing I've heard from them. Really consistently good through-out. Since you don't know my tastes, I'll say that my favorite song by them up to Fyuti is 'Pendulus', I didn't care much for the Shapes album, and I found most of the stuff on Soup to be kind of ... obvious and almost grating after awhile. no connection with BoC that I know of. --- djgyn forever <djgyn@yahoo.com> wrote:
