well HELLO there.. long time no speak, i hear you all say.. ok, we've
been busy this year beavering away and it seems all of our releases
just slipped and slipped.. and suddenly the end of the year was upon
us. no time like the present though, and 2 brand new releases will be
in existance very soon. details are - various artists compilation
thang - RND_0.34873349921 / gauge 12" - the gatehouse.
here goes:
------------------------
gauge : The Gatehouse
catalogue number: PAUSE002
format: 12" only
distribution: Cargo
release date: 10 December 2001
After returning from Switzerland and his extensive work with
distorto-rock trio 16-17 for Digital Hardcore Recordings, Damian
meets Ben, and after discovering a mutual love of Rachels and Caustic
Window, form Gauge. This is 1996. They need a drummer, so Ben coerces
his girlfriend Flo to play. She is reluctant to leave her lap-dancing
job in the Digbeth quarter of Birmingham, but does so. So it was
almost by chance that these three musical superforces were joined to
form the single gauge unit. But what a lucky chance.
They are no more, unfortunately, but The Gatehouse remains. 40
minutes of dirtily produced (by Matt Elliot / Third Eye Foundation)
and at times, virtually enigmatic, sparse, post-rock, revitalised and
remastered by Damian plus various studio engineers, desperately
trying to rescue the digital data from various found DATs. S'nice.
But not 'nice' as you know it.

various artists : RND_0.34873349921
catalogue number: PAUSE004
format: CD digipak
distribution: Cargo
release date: 10 December 2001
This compilation was originated to be a series, the RND series. RND
because the music contained within the discs is a diverse (and if one
was to analyse specifics, quite RaNDom) selection of current
electronic music. It wasn't intended to be exclusively limited to
electronic music, and not all of the sounds on the CD were created
via electronic means; it just so happened that the artists featuring
on the CD sound pretty damn electronic. The idea was to make this
series frequent, collecting together artists known and unknown from
various labels (and without labels) and to bring them together, to
level the playing-field, and produce a high quality product for a
cheap price.
Now we know why more people don't do this, because putting together
compilations by random assorted artists is actually the hardest
project we've encountered yet. Thus, it is likely this 'series' will
continue, but possibly not at the rate of knots we'd originally
intended.
The compilation features the following artists: sybarite [USA]
(temporary residence / static caravan / zeal / 4AD), EU [Russia]
(PAUSE_2 / lo / Isonauta / ArT-TeK), Metamatics [UK] (hydrogen
dukebox / clear / neo ouija), com.a [Japan] (notek / Fat Cat /
tigerbeat6), quinoline yellow [UK] (Skam / neo ouija), Wauvenfold
[UK] (wichita), Andreas Tilliander [Sweden] (mille plateaux /
rasternoton / fat cat), Zan Lyons [UK] (foundry / moshi moshi),
theboylucas [UK] (Output), draven tanks [UK] (top secret), mati:k
[Japan](Sub Rosa), novel23 [Russia] (ArT-TeK/ Pitchcadet), carthage
[UK] (irritant / twin valley falls), maps and diagrams [UK] (PAUSE_2
/ Law and Auder).

EU UPDATE
EU are putting the finishing touches on their new LP, due for release
in May on PAUSE_2, at their homes in St Petersburg (unfortunately,
after September they have to move out of their studio as ice crystals
form inside the room and it is unhealthy to work in such a cold
environment). Their new EP, 'Tuner', is due for release by PAUSE_2 on
14 January 2001. Early promos have already been making waves at BBC
Radio 1, where One World named the track 'Somn' essential listening
and placed it at NO. 1 in their list of recommended tunes this week
(
http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio1/one_world/recommended_tunes.shtml).
In just a few weeks time, EU will also be featured on the ITV series
'Mixmasters', where they have done a 10-minute mix of their debut
PAUSE_2 single 'Wienn'. For more information on Mixmasters, visit the
Addictive TV web site at www.addictive.com .
