Do they have to be all IDM? Well nobody's sticking to the "5" limit, so I guess I don't have to follow the rules either... ##Cibo Matto- Viva! La Woman ##Bjork- Homogenic ##the Boredoms- Super Are ##Mr Bungle- Disco Volante ##the Pixies- Doolittle and, of course, ##Squarepusher- Go Plastic if only because I figure if I keep listening to it, I'll come to really really like it. On the other hand, I've been trying hard NOT to listen much to ##Takako Minekawa- Cloudy Cloud Calculator because it's so fucking good I would cry if I got sick of it. Anybody else heard this brilliant album? Z --- Zach Hoon <sorted@saturn5.com> wrote:

I was just kidding, really. I know that in spite of file sharing & the ever-growing market for vinyl, many people do buy CDs for a variety of perfectly valid reasons. for the fellow who poo-pooed my listening choices as obscurist, who cares? I've never heard most of the stuff other people are listing. that's the point, no? if you're curious about something specific I'll be happy to tell you about it. e On Thu, 8 Nov 2001, Zach Hoon wrote:

oh hell no. i use both cd and vinyl. and MD and cassette tape. and paper rolls and metal cylinders, etc etc. always thought the whole format debate was a waste of typing. each format's good for its own reasons. minute i start seeing 'subject: vinyl vs cd' or 'subject: cd vs md' or 'subject: vinyl vs your dad' i just hit delete delete delete. yep. -z

I've picked up a few in various used record stores in the last few years: golden rain: balinese gamelan music & ketjak: the ramayana monkey chant javanese court gamelan from the pura paku alaman, jogyakarta the jasmine isle: javanese gamelan music the famous ramayana monkey chant was actually the creation of Walter Spies, who conceived of it as a tourist attraction (!). I know golden rain has been released on CD; not sure about the other two. nonesuch seems to be in & out of print unpredictably, but it's pretty easy to find their releases used. quality is generally good in a dry, ethnographical sort of way. all 3 LPs have nice pen & ink drawings or watercolor covers & were released in the early 70s. e On Thu, 8 Nov 2001, d_jak wrote:

There's a Girls on Top 12" that was available at SisterRay in Soho - the A side is Whitney Houston v Kraftwerk, the B is Human League v TLC. Strangely enough it's actually a lot better than it sounds - me & a mate were DJing at a fireworks party the other week and the Whitney one especially seemed to go down pretty well. What tracks are on the 7"? But, it was going pretty quickly. Apparently they played it in the store and immediately sold 7 copies from people asking for it. On the topic of record availability, does anyone know where you can get the Telefon Tel Aviv - Farenheit Fair Enough record? Everyone on this list seems to be raving about it, but you can't seem to get it for love or money in the UK. Dan.

Well, funnily enough after sending that email I had a look at Amazon UK, of all places, and they have it down for a 19th November release. Only £7.99 for the vinyl as well, which is pretty tasty. Dan.
