Hey, this was a good interview. Considering Richard's tendency to answer quizzically this interview came off as honest and real. As a funny side note here's an excerpt that addresses a question brought up on this list several months ago (do the artists know about their music being used in certain commercials?) Not surprisingly, considering its challenging, provocative style, Aphex Twin's music gets used a lot on TV whenever the subject is confrontational or disturbing. "It's always on programmes about surgery, or rapists, or paedophilia, or murder, or war," he says. "It's like, 'I'm glad that's how you see me!' But that's better than it being used on some cooking or DIY programme." It has been used on adverts for Pirelli and Orange - is there anything he wouldn't allow his music to advertise? "Only private health," he replies. "I've said no to that. If it's against my morals, I won't do it." So that's two for two - thanks people for posting these interview links to the list. I learn much more about these artists from their interviews then from all the maddness on the IDM-L Take it easy.... Anyone remember the "Emotion vs Intelligence" thread a little while back? Here's RDJ's spin on the issue... ---- "It's quite similar to guitar solos," he concedes, "only with programming you have to use your brain. The most important thing is that it should have some emotional effect on me, rather than just, 'Oh, that's really clever.' There's a lot of melancholy in my tracks." His best ones, he says, are those which evoke feelings that can't quite be described, where "you're not quite sure what emotion it is". ----
