I heard the new Orbital album that came out last week a few months ago and wasn't too impressed so I wasn't going to buy it... However, a double CD set of it with a bonus album with 11 tracks of b-sides and rarities etc was on sale for $10 so I figured why not. Wow! This "bonus disc" is easily my favorite Orbital besides In Sides.....terrific stuff......so if you wrote off the new album you might want to pick it up anyways. I guess most of this stuff is from the singles off the last album? It says "limited edition" but I'm not sure how limited it really is, there were tons of copies where I bought it. Here is the track listing: 1. Bigpipe Style 2. Monorail 3. Much Ado About Nothing Left 4. An Fromhair 5. Doctor Look Out 6. Beelzebeat 7. Nothing Left Out 8. Old Style 9. Funny Break (Weekend Ravers Mix) 10. Mock Tudor 11. New Style --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

The unfortunate thing is that the second disc of out-takes totally outshines the main album. I'll have to give the new orbital a few more listens, but right now its probably the second most disappointing cd I've heard this year..... the new depeche mode being the first. In things that aren't dissapointing in the least, I'm loving Phonecia's 'Brownout' and the Arovane/Phonem CD. being the first. I remember listening to sound samples from the main disc and being thoroughly displeased. I really think they dropped the ball here 'altogether'. This second disc sounds interesting, since I did like "Middle Of Nowhere." Still, I'm shocked it doesn't contain 'Beached' (from the Leonardo DiCaprio movie), which I still feel is one of Orbital's final works ever. I think that with every Orbital album since Snivilization, it takes a little while to get the full understanding of what they have done. It does take a few listens to really appreciate the sounds they have created. I personally feel "The Altogether' is brilliant, with the exception that it doesnt integrate the full range of emotion that they usually include in their material. Most of the stuff is in that pleasant mode between dance and intelligence, and thats what I have always liked about them. I havent heard or seen the second disc yet... but I do look forward to it. I agree that the 2CD edition will probably be more appealing to the general listener.
