i been really getting into delarosa & asora. good stuff. picked up both 'agony pt. 1' and the backsome ep within a few days of each other, in a strange schematic binge. a few weeks earlier i'd picked up the prefuse73 lp on warp, had no idea it was the same person, scott herren. -then- i found out he has music out under a third alias, savath+savalas. just picked up 'folk songs for trains, trees and honey' on hefty records tonight. still need to listen to it, so more to come on that. the point? oh yeah, it's good. it kind of fills the hole left by the lack of a new boards of canada lp, altho i wouldn't exactly call their sounds similar. go figure. -zach On Wed, 22 Aug 2001, Reading, John wrote:

all i have to say on the matter... scott herren is a gawdaam genius. why is it that he can express how i feel i am emotionally/psychologically better than i'm capable of at this point with music?... i dunno. delarosa & asora is good shit. ~.~ zac [ethereon] http://www.undergroundsource.com ------------------------------------------------------------ Community, Events, Music, News, Free Email All at www.undergroundsource.com. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

oh yeah! to me,he's responsible for the most innovating music that's been released in whole wile. After getting Agony pt1 all the other stuff seems to sound so dated, before I was kind of hooked on the smooth melodic styled IDM (Plod, BoC, ...), I've really discovered a totally new sound through him. AFAIK it's only Cex that comes close to the sound and atmosphere of d&a. Richard Devine comes close in sound but lacks the amazing atmosphere IMHO ... Maybe one of you could point me to any other artists with similar productions? Couldn't agree more, but don't you think that the D&A stuff has a more mature sound than Prefuse 73. It has much much more depth to me... Yes, it's really, really damn good. I like it how he just described it (d&a) as "Just him fucking around in max/msp", or something to that effect. Right. As if no thought was put into it. I wonder if he was attempting modesty, or, being an arrogant shithead? I hope the former. --nm On Fri, 24 Aug 2001, Reading, John wrote:

There's a place for both modest people and arrogant shitheads in music. There better be because I know a lot of arrogant shitheads in music! --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

For what it's worth, the gear/method he referred to in that message he asked someone to forward to the list was an MPC. ie. Akai's hardware sequencer/sampler unit. Michael np.
