So I've fallen in love with micro-house. I'm looking to get enough vinyl to start djing with it -- can anybody help me with artist and label recommendations? So far stuff that I'm loving includes labels Kompakt, Sender, Soundslike, Force Tracks; the obvious artist choices Thomas Brinkmann, M.R.I, Luomo...any other recommendations? Has to be funky enough to dance to, but interesting enough for me to actually want to listen to it. Like...I dunno...intelligent dance music, maybe... thank you kindly, Lukas np: local fields - swing shift --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Crane AK's "Pink Eyed Pony" might do it for you, but imo it pales next to M.R.I.'s "Rhythmogenesis" - that's just luscious. If you can make it to vinyl, some of the Perlon output is nice- as is the Klang stuff. It's not always as housey, but it's usually *quite* interesting. Sliding more towards tech-house is Hakan Lidbo's "Tech Couture" - but that one isn't to be missed, either. "Before the Beginning" is also quite nice and "After the End" is more experimental than that. I'd definitely track down some Dub Taylor as well. At 02:48 PM 8/15/2001, you wrote:

Ho, that's what it's called, I thought it was called "tech-house"... I would have classified people like Auch, Statvostrand as micro-house, but most releases on Perlon, Kompakt, Force Track are less than micro in my taste ... but that's just me, anyway, I'm bored now, and I need to quite listnening to "digitally imported" ... HeHeHe ... just switch to Vlasdislav Delay's sistol ... that's "micro/tech house" Max. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Sistol is the guise used by Vladislav Delay on the Phthalo label. There is one self-titled cd by Sistol which was released in early 2000 but was limited to 500 copies so it may be harder to find nowadays. The style of the Sistol release is more on the experimental techno edge. Here is the tracklisting: . Sistol: s/t cd (Phthalo) Tracks: - keno - hac - nuomo - kaste - haaska - kelmi - luomo - kotka I used to do the Phthalo label website but havent had the time to revive the site since it was lost during an isp switch 6 months ago. i plan on bringing it back to life as soon as time permits. in the meantime you can get some information at www.phthalo.com or www.thebarrio.com but speaking of vladislav delay, he seems to have gone quiet lately after his blitzkrieg of a dozen releases last year. he must be gearing up for another outburst of releases. in the meantime, if you are aching for a new vlad-delay-like techno-dub release (ala anima, multila) check out tomas jirku's new 'immaterial' cd on the substractif label - four lenghty experimental dub-techno journeys well worth taking. i think i posted a recoreview of it recently if not it will be posted later this week. -- -->-Lance---- PO Box 450715 Westlake, OH 44145 United States --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

i've got the micro-house bug too! can't get enough of it, really... problem is, i can't really find too much of it here in orange county, though noisenoisenoise manages to get some stuff in.. i try to avoid ordering stuff online when i can, but i suppose it'll have to come to that eventually. as for what i have found, i guess i started with clicks and cuts 2 and was particularly fond of vladislav delay's track on there as well as kid 606... also from the kid, p.s. you love me is an excellent release with many microfunky riddims. i don't know if you'd call it micro-house or not, but the soft pink truth 12" is AMAZING and the funkiest thing since moldy cheese! some of snd's stuff is pretty wonderful though night quite as funky as you might like... i think your best bet for discovering this sort of thing would be the myriad comps that are coming out, microhouse seems to be the way many people are going thankfully... lallalalalllll, gregory --- Lukas Bergstrom <lukas@pair.com> wrote:

I'm only interested in vinyl, actually, not having cd decks. Ok, not quite true, I'll buy CDs for home listening, but right now I'm trying to get a set together. Thanks for the recommendations. I think Hakan Lidbo is going at the top of my list; people seem unable to describe him with anything other than superlatives. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

My recommendations. Some of these are more "micro," some a little more "techhy" (when I think of "tech-house," incidentally, it's generally more to the techno side, a little bit more chugging, not all the pings and squibbles I attribute to "micro" -- but really, this is all picking nits out of my own little brain, and certainly nothing like a rulebook, just a guideline): Perlon -- any and all Drew Daniels' "Soft Pink Truth" (Soundslike) -- brilliant and quirky and syncopated and weird Safety Scissors -- most anything; shares the feel of Drew's record in a way Kompakt -- obviously. Pretty broad range here, from the more polka-oriented stuff to the really soft pads of Dettinger, Jonas Bering et al Festplatten -- a label that's totally underrated. Part of the Mad-Net collective... S.I. Futures -- new album on Novamute, suprisingly well suited to a set of this stuff Speaking of which, a great launch pad for this is www.mad-net.de. I've listed some odds and ends -- really, stuff on the peripheries, not "core" examples, in a sidebar to the article in the current issue of the Wire (Thom Yorke cover)... Also, just for fun, the set that Fresh Blend and I did on Betalounge last week (before DJ Spooky) is pretty much all in this vein.
