you're visiting hong kong? the best record store is Monitor Records for idm music...vinyl & CD Address: shop U08 ug/f astor plaza, 380 nathan road kowloon T: 2782 3562 = open till 10pm most nights. the place is a small treasure trove of stuff... there's not much of a club scene in hk now except for trance..or annoying commercial disco. venues are hard to find altho i was taken to an area with lots of australians hanging out in bars - the place reminded me of north beach cause it was on some amazing hill. the british council is just about to launch a cool new website covering music incl. idm. in english. i'll find the link & post it when i can. roughguides has an ok bulletin board with experienced travellers asking about stuff. but is subject to some DISinformation. hong kong is good for finding cheap vinyl - i found a dj shadow - entroducing on vinyl in one of the hmv's - lots of shopping malls & tall buildings & i missed taking the ferry but everyone says its worth it. Well...I know what you mean but it's not quite that bad...we've had quite a lot of interesting underground developments going on in the last couple years. The overall scene has grown hugely since '95 (when I moved here from Tokyo), there was hardly a scene at all then. There was an interesting (if superficial) in Asiaweek magazine this week about the HK underground scene (with a mention of DCL, natch), you can check it at: <http://www.asiaweek.com/asiaweek/magazine/Life/0,8782,169837,00.html> It also mentions Slow-Tech Riddim, a local jazz/funk/post-rock/electronica band, and Jun Kung, an 'alternative' Chinese pop star from Macau who sometimes plays drums with us. Also check out <http://www.gwylorecords.com> for the latest info on the HK club scene.

That's Lan Kwai Fong...place where all the expat bizness peeps to hang out. Best place to see and be seen and get drunk and pass out. Feel free to write if you've got any more questions about the HK scene... slow tech riddim: exactly. in case needed i can make you a direct contact to these guys. at our last show in hong kong we did a live collaboration with these guys. also i got their first album which i certainly like for a kind of a dark, partly live-played approach to electronic dub stuff, partly noisy, too. as i heard of their bandleader kim recently they are working on their second album currently. -- jayrope • rope ------------------ self-drawing netart application: http://www.jayrope.com/jall/autojayropinsky/autojayropinsky.html ------------------ music: ROPE etc: http://www.jayrope.com --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Yo -- I was there in the audience...interesting evening, lots of noise going around. Were you singing through a distortion box or what? Also heard and met Monolake earlier that night, he played a really nice set I thought.
