Why is it that a large number of the live IDM radio shows I see posted about are after 12 am or early morning? Is it because the "general public" of radio listeners don't want to listen to this stuff so they put it on god-forsaken hours, or because we IDM listeners are all night owls or what?! Are there any radio shows which I can catch during the daytime (e.g. like when I'm at work?). I know of live streams like Eric Fran's Chairtronix or Static Beats, but I'm looking also for live daytime radio shows. -Sharon --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Swope Transmissions is on 6-9pm on Fridays on KUCI 88.9FM (Irvine, CA). http://kuci.org And it's not strictly idm. It's more a blend of many styles... trip hop, broken beat and Detroit techno. --- Sharon Clarke <sharon@infotechcanada.com> wrote:

you can catch solid steel on http://www.ammocity.com anytime - they're hosting it for us, there's about five weeks of archives in there - 10 hours to pull you thru the work doldrums... but you might have to join ammo city, but they're spam is pretty good & filled with other inneresting dj sets. they get all sorts of djs coming in and doing sets. http://www.groovetech,com is good and so is http://www.betalounge.com & think the http://www.dublab,com archives are still being hosted tho i havent checked lately. nethed. A lot of the radio shows are actual radio shows, and since IDM really doesn't go over very well with people who aren't "into it," it ends up at non-peak hours. Plus, many of the people who do it at home have a normal job during the day, and, due to timezone differences and dinner, end up later at night. It just comes with the territory :D derek --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

I'm on 10 PM to midnight Eastern. 89.5 FM in Toronto, www.ciut.fm elsewhere (although the netcast can be flaky at times).

Huh? 6 PM to 12 midnight seems like an odd definition of "daytime" to me. :) Greg --- Greg Clow - greg@stainedproductions.com - greg@feedbackmonitor.com concert & event promotions - http://www.stainedproductions.com electronic music radio/reviews/interviews - http://www.feedbackmonitor.com 158 Close Ave. 2nd Floor - Toronto, Ontario M6K 2V5 - Canada --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Ha! I did it in college between midnight and 6 am b/c when I first got a shift at 9 am Friday morning the station was deluged with mad phone calls. They moved me and put modern rock back on for the hungover masses. It was, sadly, the only time anyone ever called during one of my shows. And that was for 7 semesters ; ( J "iam nemo, fessus satiate videndi, suspicere in coeli dignatur lucida templa" - Lucretius

Here's a true story some of you may find hopeful: I DJed at 91.3 WVUD FM for about a year, in '96 -- back before ANYONE here had any clue about IDM. It was a thankless shift from midnight to 3 AM, with few listeners and even fewer fans. One of my proudest moments, for example, was when I got an advance copy of the Richard D James album before ANYONE, and I mean ANYONE else. I played half the tracks on my show the day I got it; the phone never flinched. Anyway, on to the story. I had had a particularly rough day - bitched out at work, came home to snarling roommates - and wanted nothing more than to sleep. As I was literally laying my head on the pillow, I suddenly remembered having agreed to cover Maryann Atkinson's shift on the ambient show. Grudgingly, I yanked myself back out of bed, surly, and went over to my CD collection. "Fuck formats," I thought to myself, "I'm playing whatever I damn well please tonight." I got to the station just in time, and took over from the previous DJ, not even announcing before I played my first track. For the next 45 minutes I threaded together a set to sooth my frazzled nerves: Global Communication, Muslimgauze, Biosphere, Banco De Gaia. After about 9 or ten songs, I opened up the mic and gave a station ID and the phone number, then went back into my set. Well, no sooner do I close the mike, the phone rings. "Hello, WVUD." "You finally back-announced! I've been listening for the last 45 minutes waiting for you to give the number so I could call!" It was a college girl named Valerie. She caught the show in her car coming home from her own rather stressful day at work, and was immediately intrigued by this epic, textural music she had never heard anything like before -- her best description of it was "Like Enigma, but better." She then made me dictate MY ENTIRE SET thus far to her over the phone, including album names, so she could hit the record stores first thing in the morning and buy as much of this "IDM" as she could find. We talked for about 45 minutes, and then she bid me farewell, thanking me profusely for introducing her to something new and wonderful. And the rest of the night, not surprisingly, seemed a whole lot better. m@2zo www.thechisa.com --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
