something more on topic perhaps... what's the last album you listened to that blew your mind? (I would define 'blew your mind' as the last album where you knew immediately it was great) the last album that really blew my mind was Four Tet - Pause, which I listened to yesterday. before that, Deltron 3030. ps. I'm really diggin Joseph Nothing - Dummy Variations. good stuff. _________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Not really on topic, as it's not IDM... But the recent album by Portland OR's HOCHENKEIT (pronounced "Hoaken-kite") called "Omu4h 4aholab / 400 Boys" is quite the fun drone avant rock accomplishment... far better than anything I've heard from Godspeed You Black Emperor or the side projects thereof. It's one of those albums that levitates *you* as opposed to just levitate in front of you. And it does it without having to rely on blurring, distorting, and decimating itself over and over again -- as fun as that can be..(not to accuse GYBE of that specifically) Sorta like the ambient moments of Eno's "Another Green World", Thinking Fellers, Amon Duul II.... all using a pretty standard set of "rock" instruments too, for the most part. At least the first half of the CD title is IDM. ======================================================================= Brian MacDonald <brianm@kuci.org> ======================================================================= --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Monolake - Gravity. I heard it a few months ago, bought it, then went out and got Interstate and Hong Kong within a week. It's been awhile since something grabbed me like that. __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Get personalized email addresses from Yahoo! i have no idea whether this actually is a physical album or not, but there's something floating about soulseek by vim! titled "for your noodle". this thing blows my mind. i've had a longtime affixation for chiptunes and cheesy demoscene mods, and this album is a validation of that obsession - great things doen with simple sounds. the lack of any degree of fancy processing here allows the melodies/harmonies to come out that much stronger. plus, i love cheesy fast arpeggio chord sounds :P

So apparently there's this guy called Vim! who : "If you have done your homework you will find that Vim! has a very healthy history in the mod scene, and he is a whizz with the old chip tunes. He is the object of affection of his local postal lady, and he makes his shopping habits very public. Vim has a bulging vocabulary of audio skills, which he has used to great effect on his 18 track debut release. This man should have been released a long time ago. ": NOW - my question is this the same person who released that comedy house track as V.I.M. "Maggie's Last Party" in 1991? -i __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
