i'm excited someone brought this up - the cascade ep is definitely my favorite release by fsol, hands down. lifeforms is good, but cascade really swings. swings i tell you! i'm also going to agree with those who have mentioned aphelion - zugzwang, aspen, plod, and tosca as great mellow idm. has anyone mentioned SAWI yet? it's almost too obvious. for the record, "4" off rdj album is maybe my favorite mellow idm track of all time. speaking of aspen, i've only recently gotten into "are you that retail snob?" and love it. can someone tell me how their other stuff compares, especially "music from passing cars"? thanks. cheers, nub --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

I really enjoyed Aspen's 'Music From Passing Cars'. It is equally as good as 'Are You That Retail Snob?'. aspen is one of those rare, brilliant electronic musicians that manage to bring actual emotion and feeling to instrumental music. this is beautiful, down-tempo mood music, great for those early saturday morning headphone sessions. synctank np: Ambidextrous - Errorism Purist Online http://members.nbci.com/puristzine -----Original Message----- Date: Fri, 22 Jun 2001 11:50:19 -0600 (MDT) To: intelligent dunce music <idm@hyperreal.org> From: Ben Knowles <knowles@Colorado.EDU> speaking of aspen, i've only recently gotten into "are you that retail snob?" and love it. can someone tell me how their other stuff compares, especially "music from passing cars"? thanks. cheers, nub --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

musicfrompassingcars is a major step up for aspen. the album still has that recognizable aspen sound/quality - you know, clear and airy, sorta. anyway, it's even more sparse in some ways than "are you..." and at times it's actually quite jazzy, in a very mellow sort of way. man, that sounds cheezy - i am just terrible at describing music. basically, if you dig "are you...", you will dig "music" even more - though maybe not right off the bat. but trust me, it's better. aspen also releases under the signer moniker. that's stuff is minmal tech house and it's ok. i definitely like his more ambient stuff much more. that "singer mx" on "are you..." (it's the middle track, i think?) is actually supposed to be signer, i believe. that gives you and idea of the signer sound - i.e - it's the weakest track on the album. i still haven't heard aspen's first album. anyone have any thoughts on how that one is? ----- Original Message ----- From: Ben Knowles <knowles@Colorado.EDU> To: intelligent dunce music <idm@hyperreal.org> Sent: Friday, June 22, 2001 1:50 PM Subject: Re: [idm] Mellow IDM tracks -> aspen question
