If I hear another AE sucks now comment... why can't music evolve? To play the same stuff you came out with years ago and probably created years before that must really suck... Do you have to keep replaying it and attempting to fit your new songs into the limitations imposed by a mob of adoring fans? I know AE are talented as fuck and they have done well to redefine my preconceptions of what melody is... and I know they will do the same on Saturday. Oh God, Oh Autechre, Oh God... how could you let me down so? Change is good to accept, cause it just keeps happening all around you... ;) _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Yeah, change is ALWAYS good. Like, if I changed you from ALIVE to DEAD, that'd be good, right? No, change is not always good. Sometimes change is bad. Sometimes you change direction in the WRONG direction. Sometimes staying put is the best option. Sometimes doing nothing at all while the world changes AROUND you is the way to change. All this talk about Confield bores me. I listened to it, again, and again, and again. I tried to like it. I tried to not try liking it. It's simply not good. It's aimless, grating, inaccessable crap. I didn't need to try to like all the enjoyable music of the world I've yet found, and this is no different. One may as well say that Britney Spears, The Legendary Stardust Cowboy or Masonna will improve with repeated listens. The point is, it sucks, plain and simple. m@2zo www.thechisa.com "Like David said in the 23rd Psalm, 'Though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death.' Yeah, I don't think we're really getting anywhere, as amusing as it may be to portray Confield detractors as whiny, uncultured dimwits and Confield supporters as snobbish, uncritical lemmings.

_Mademoiselle Anne Sanglante ou Notre Nymphomanie Aureole_ is equally searing each time I put it on. I don't think it requires the benefit from repeated listens- it's the most succinct expression of Maso's brain-bombing technique around (closest reference point: Henri Chopin performing on stage during a rainstorm with a short-circuiting mic). -rob --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

no matter how much everyone says that Confield sucks, won't make me dislike it. Ae's show was fucking amazing , and if you don't have the capacity to hear how beautiful, dark , and psychedelic they sounds, then all your talk about drugs, and evolution is pointless drivel, because you are missing out on beautiful music. It sucks to be you. take some more mushrooms, and enjoy your new clothes. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

I think people get all excited about Autechre's new direction cuz there's all this sort of mystery about what they're doing/how they're making the music, but I think once you get some experience with their tools - more "advanced" synthesis/DSP/generative software - you'll be less impressed. I mean I think they're very talented and full of great ideas and all that, but I think they could be doing more with their tools and in a way I kind of see their recent tracks as lazy (there are people on the SuperCollider list who are convinced that on the first tune off Confield they're just using one of the example patches that comes with SC). It seems to me like they're so sort of wrapped up in the process that they're not really paying attention to just making something worth listening to. I feel like you can't even really talk about things like "production" or arrangement with the new stuff, it's just sort of "this is the output of this process/environment we came up with and that's it". Which is cool in a sort of academic way, but the end results aren't all that exciting a lot of the time (with Autechre), imo. Personally, I definitely don't wish they would go back to what they were doing in '95 or whatever, but I wish their music would be more dynamic. I thought the "Peel Session 2" tracks were great, but the stuff they're doing now tends to be very static and overly long. This whole 10 minutes repetition with "subtle" changes thing really gets tired after a while. One of my favorite tracks off Confield is track 6 which is only like 4 minutes long and doesn't outstay its welcome. (And I have been known to listen to quite a lot of free/avant-garde jazz and 20th century classical among other things, so I don't think that "you're not appreciating experimentation" argument really applies, but it is all just my opinion in the end.) :-) Whatever, I still have a lot of respect for what they're doing.
