I hate to fuel the flames but crack is also about ten times as powerful than coke. It's also much more addictive. Those laws(rockefeller laws, mandatory minimums) discriminate by economics and ignorance rather than race. White boys who smoke crack get the same sentences as black boys. dealing LSD carries a 25 year mandatory minimum while dealing shrooms or X(until recently) carried a much smaller sentence. Also the newer the drug the faster it becomes illegal, and depending on when it comes out(what the political climate is like) the stiffer the sentence. e.g. cocaine was legal for like 30 years, crack, X, etc more like a week. The whole "prison industrial complex as social control" thing is so fucking confusing. it costs $50,000 to build ONE 6x9 prison cell. thats more $$$$$ per sq foot than an apartment on central park west. frankly this whole thread is beginning to make my brain hurt. Who gives a fuck if the Aphex Twin is a "sell out"? The only people who care enough about shit like this to whine about it are the people who think THEY'RE sellouts if they still listen to the his albums. sad, sad, sad.

Actually, X was legally sold in bars and clubs in NYC during the early '80s. The laws took some time... -Ryan --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

And coke was there for a LONG time... it's been around for longer than people have been making drugs illegal. Zzb ===== __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Yahoo! well, if you want to get pedantic it was actually never legal to buy X because drugs not approved by the FDA are technically illegal to buy or sell.
