Try 'The Good Good', a label comp for 2000 Black. You've got 4 Hero covering Coltrane, and people like Roy Ayers turn up to sing and/or play vibes on various tracks. So, basically it's acid jazz, but it's got a lot more spine than yer average cafe wallpaper. Sort of like what As One / Kirk De Giorgio stuff has become if you know eg. 'Planetary Folklore'. It's an area that I really enjoy hearing if I'm out and up for a boogie, but some of it just tips the cheese scales on me pretty badly.. Michael np. 'My Life With Jesus' - Geeez n Gosh (I dismissed this first time I heard it, but in the end grabbed it on a second listen and am really enjoying it) -+- Involve Records http://involverecords.com Jet Jaguar MP3s (latest upload Nov2000) http://mp3.com/jetjag -+- --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Seems like the whole west-london thing is finally spreading ... good news I'd say! anyway, the only site I've found about labels like People, Bitasweet, ... is: www.goyamusic.com Every now and then there are some posts about "broken beat" on the acid-jazz list: http://www.cmd.uu.se/AcidJazz/FAQ/MailList.html btw, I have to agree on the Swope-Transmission mixes. They are very good! Me want more! It's damn hard to find these records in Belgium, but we try to keep up. SayVegin www.freestylegrooves.com

Wow. I'd never heard about broken beats before today... but this sounds exactly like the music I'd making if I knew a little more about latin and afrobeat. Fuck, some of this is really good stuff. Bout time there was a new genre. Hooray! Yeah, San Francisco is showing a lot of support to broken beat these days, thanks largely to people like Tomas (who has two amazing monthlies alongside Jonah Sharp & Ubiquity's Andrew Jervis) - I get the sense that we're a little North American enclave for the stuff. I'd be interested in hearing where else it's building to this degree. As for newsgroups, I've found the acid jazz list (acid-jazz@ucsd.edu) is the best resource for this kind of stuff. And, honestly, I'd be against launcing a broken beat list, partially because by definition it eludes genre, and partially because I'd be loathe to join yet another list...! cheers philip
