My CD was in the mailbox last night with an additional CD included of enough bonus tracks it might as well be another album. I knew I was getting some extra tracks, but I totally forgot it would be that many! I'll have to drive around later and give it a listen; there was one particular track up on YouTube that I really liked and I'm thinking of picking up a few modular pieces, so that was my main incentive for buying this album (well that and I was entered into some sort of modular giveaway for ordering a physical copy). Other than that, I tried to avoid listening to anything from it before it's arrival. Might have to put a coupla' bucks on mum's credit card and buy a joint to enhance the listening experience. I really like Datach'i's drill n' bass of yore, though I'm obviously not expecting anything of the sort. Really just hoping for an old-fashioned IDM album. ________________________________ From: Peacejunk <peacejunk1@gmx.net> Sent: Thursday, August 25, 2016 4:06:12 AM To: c. jones Cc: do id Subject: Re: New Datach'i "System" Yesterday I have received the vinyl. Ah good, that's what I wanted: something musical. It seems now that in the modular world people are finally moving away from wankery and into more musical territories. As much as I love sound design and appreciate modular gear for that aspect, I've not seen it applied much in a musical regard. ________________________________ From: Chris Taylor <christaylor415@gmail.com> Sent: Thursday, August 25, 2016 1:57:50 PM To: Clint Anderson Cc: c. jones; do id Subject: Re: New Datach'i "System" pretty good display of modulars being used for nice musical stuff that's very tightly structured On Thu, Aug 25, 2016 at 3:55 PM, Chris Taylor <christaylor415@gmail.com<mailto:christaylor415@gmail.com>> wrote: you totally nailed it Kent on the mastering and sonic character. it's still super clean and polished, something i liked about his earlier work. but yeah more subdued. pretty good display of modulars being used to nice musical stuff that's very tightly structured On Thu, Aug 25, 2016 at 3:42 PM, Clint Anderson <clinta@gmail.com<mailto:clinta@gmail.com>> wrote: i dunno something happened and now im listening to mission of burma Clint Anderson Systems Engineer "Freedom -- paint me a picture!" -- Burton Cummings On Thu, Aug 25, 2016 at 2:37 PM, c. jones <coda27@hotmail.com<mailto:coda27@hotmail.com>> wrote: My CD was in the mailbox last night with an additional CD included of enough bonus tracks it might as well be another album. After a good few listens, most of this album just passed me by. In The Field With Brian is a nice intro. I thought the album kind of peaked around this time last year with Monarchs, and nothing else was really grabbing me for a while. I was ready to give up, but I gave it more attention. I really like Margin of Error. Waveguiding in particular is doing things for me. So far, the first half (apart from Monarchs) just bores me and the second half has some really good stuff. Some filler on here, but a good handful of tracks worthy of dumping into a separate and regularly listened to playlist. Who has listened to the bonus tracks? Good stuff? Side note 1: I do like a bit of wankery, but it's nice to have some melodic glue or some nice pads to take the edge off, which some of these tracks do very nicely. Side note 2: West Peaks sounds so much like what Floating Points is doing these days, along with a Korg Volca Beats. Side note 3: 122112 has a bit from 2:07 to 2:17 that to me sounds exactly like something else. It's killing me! If any of you lot can figure it out, I'd be grateful!
