IDMers - share your insight: How, historically, did Orbital fit in with the Warp Records/IDM thing? In listening to Snivisation it doesn't seem to far away from the Artificial Intelligence comp or other stuff of that era. And pretty dope too with a nice electro feel. But I don't feel like they get much critical attention (or maybe retrospective assessment) I ended up hearing from through Insides which got played on alternative radio in The States in the mid/late 90s and they were part of the Prodigy/Underworld/Chemical Brothers package that made it to rock radio. Thoughts?

Green Album and Brown Album (1st two) were viewed as being pretty influential, though they were always viewed as a little more ravey / festivaly than straight Bedroom Listening Warp stuff. I think they gradually lost relevance from Snivilization on. Planet of the Shapes is still an outright banger though. thanks, Jeffrey J Davis jeff@jeffreyjdavis.com www.jeffreyjdavis.com 218.833.2847 On Fri, Aug 19, 2016 at 2:03 PM, Chris Taylor <christaylor415@gmail.com> wrote:

yeah the rave thing seems key. still compared to other "electronica" acts that got pushed at that point in time, it's pretty sensible stuff thanks On Fri, Aug 19, 2016 at 3:42 PM, Clint Anderson <clinta@gmail.com> wrote:

yeah i for one love(d) orbital, first thing i got was snivelisation which apparently was their big break in the US and that was pre internet. i think in-sides stands out for me as the best, i got both versions of the double-cd. i also really like the brown and green albums as well, almost all absolute top notch tracks. i could definitely see Orbital as braindance, its certainly lovely groovy cool music. i kind of lost interest slowly tho on the stuff after in-sides, they have had good tracks here and there but it just seemed a lot less inspired than previously, probably they stopped doing drugs or something (ha) Clint Anderson Systems Engineer "Freedom -- paint me a picture!" -- Burton Cummings On Fri, Aug 19, 2016 at 7:16 PM, Chris Taylor <christaylor415@gmail.com> wrote:
