M6 Hans Appelqvist "The Xiao Fang EP" Release: April 20, 2001 Mjäll is very proud to present the debut of Hans Appelqvist former known as Tonefilm. Hans has been working and performing as Tonefilm a couple of years, with pic/sound samples from Swedish movies from the 70´s and different spoken word clips, putting it to a new context in many different layers and athmosperes. The performances have been a mixture of pictures (video/slides) and music. All devided into different tracks, where each one has it´s own story or idea to present. This material has recently been mixed by Hans and Andreas Tilliander (Mille Plateaux) in the Efphö-studio and will be released on the album "Tonefilm" by the Komplott label later this spring. Hans Appelqvist is 23 years old and studying Chinese at the Univerity of Lund. On this EP he works with collected voices from China summer 2000. With sore beats and mellow guitars and lyrical piano he give you a trip to the East without leaving your armchair. He is also a member of the post-rock group General Music, which also includes another Mjäll-artist; Lag/Andrew Smart on drums. Distribution: Europe-KRAAK/Morr Music/Baked Goods USA_SAFE Distribution More Mjall news: Electromagnetic Beam has released a 12" on his own label Lecitin. The EP King vs Qeen is more funkier and uptempo than his "The Arne Sand EP" for Mjall, but it´s an excellent piece of plastic that could be orderded at http://www.lecitin.com/ Anton who released "The Happy Prankster EP" in January has been picked for two compilations: The track "Aruf" will appear on the fortcoming compilation of the Benno klan;benno presents vol.6 Watch the space http://www.benno.com Electromagnetic Beam´s mellow track "Asleep at work" got it´s space at their first compilation "An unfinished retrospective" vol.4 (2000) together with other goodies acts as Pluxus, Iota, Seamonster1, Girlfrendo, Doktor Kosmos and many more. Could still be ordered at their mailorder. The second compilation is the a second volume of "folky" by Spectrum Works in Cologne. They want the track "Mörkt flöde no. 27" Other people they´re speaking to just now to be featured on the compilation are: tommy guererro, jazzanova, high llamas, g-litter ,jim o'rourke ray barbee, spiritual vibes... Mjall´s little place on the net http://www.listen.to/mjall has not been updated at all and stinks. A proper construction will be done til summer. The last two EP´s in the IT´S NOT A CAMERA - IT`S A FILM serie are now under production: M7 Team Musil - tba is Swedish well-known music critic Magnus Haglund and a couple of friends doing constructions and de-constructions based on different materials from composers Schönberg and Nono... M8 Peter Lloyd - tba Two long tracks of "ecotica electronica" which consist everything from space (Juri Gagarin talking over sore beats) down to earth (the composers daughter´s cry for JORDGUBBAR!! (STRAWBERRIES!) Hopefully out before midsummer. All of you schmucks who have been spending the last couple of weeks analyzing the crap out of Confield should read this. More sepcifically, you should read the following excerpt: --- De:Bug: Where is Autechre going with this next album. Sean: Nah. Nah nah. De:Bug: Not a specific.... Sean: No. Not because we didn´t have anything specific in mind when we did the tracks. I don´t want to pretend now that we´ve got something. De:Bug: Not in a way of: we want this and that, but in a way of what you were working on. Sean: It´s just like that: Look at this, this is what we did. That´s all what we´re saying really. Just check this out. This is what we did this year. There is no specific reason that it exists, other then that thats what we wanted to hear on the days that we made those tracks. I`d be lying if i said anything else, It would be bullshit. I´d just be saying it to impress cause it sounds good. I am not like that. I dont see the point in it. We exist, we do what we do, and we talk about it. But the music, actually describe it, trying to define where it´s coming from. There is no point. I had no concious thoughts when I was doing it. Not litererally. Not in terms of: oh yeah, I tried to do this with it, and that with it. It would not even make sense if I would be trying to describe it. --- Greg --- Greg Clow - greg@stainedproductions.com - greg@feedbackmonitor.com concert & event promotions - http://www.stainedproductions.com electronic music radio/reviews/interviews - http://www.feedbackmonitor.com 158 Close Ave. 2nd Floor - Toronto, Ontario M6K 2V5 - Canada --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Personally I would say this is the crowning moment of the interview. This is a must-read for all listmembers. =================================== Sean: I`ve got so many of our livesets that I have napstered. I think that Napster is actually quite good. I am quite into it. I never bother to record anything that we do. And it is just wicked to just go on there and get all of our livesets. All the kids with minidiscs and stuff have archived them and put them up there. I fucking appreciate it. I don´t have any problem with it, it´s quite a good thing. I mean if they are selling them to each other, that stinks cause I am not into people making money off it. But if they are just trading and stuff it´s fucking well, it´s what I did when I was at school and did not have enough money to buy records. I just had tapes. What I`ve done is that I retitled some of the livesets with tracknames of our album and left them on Napster for a couple of months. But nobody downloaded them. I was quite disappointed. But the files were so massive. All really highbitrate as well. Shimone/Justes http://www.staticbeats.com Electronic Music For The Mind http://www.staticbeats.com/sb365idm.ram

Hey, don't forget my fakes! After all, I was the faker who specifically mentioned dropping in Autechre sound-alikes thinking everyone would guess them but no-one did. My fakes seemed to be pretty well propagated -- and so that I could tell how well mine were doing, I made Vi Scose Poise a Bola remix. ;) -- Mark Stevens http://www.headspin.clara.net/ --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Yeah actually when I posted the quote from the article I truncated that part of the message on purpose. I figured at some point you would toot your own horn anyway.... Nothing personal, I just felt that although it was funny he didn't know who made them (and we all do), it wasn't as relevant as mentioning that he supported the idea of people trading live Autechre MP3's via Napster.
