Show #1 :
Fire Museum is proud to present a benefit concert for the Revolutionary
Association of the Women of Afghanistan (RAWA) at the Stork Club, 2330
Telegraph Avenue in Oakland, featuring the following fine artists. (in
reverse order of appearance)
BLECTUM FROM BLECHDOM
Oakland-based laptop/samplers duo, they are getting thrown into the whole
burgeoning "techno/laptop/idm
/glitch/punk/electro/whatever-you-wanna-call-it" genre. Recent reviews and
features in The Wire (UK), A.P. Magazine, Grooves,XLR8R, Blow Up(Italy),
and Vice Magazine. "..the dividing line between nice, clean digital funk
and dirty sweaty funk. What gives?" -The Wire

THE BRAN (...) POS + PLANETSIZE
The technical siphoning of the natural unpredictable qualities of the
voice
as a source and trigger for far more unworldly electronic sounds combined
with the manhandling of the synthesizer into a form equally as malleable
and skippy makes up much of what is heard at a BRAN(...)POS concert.
Human
grunts and moans/Machine grunts and moans/Man loves machine/Machine plays
hard to get(in public)/Some discussion ensues. Performances with
fatest-finger champion PLANETSIZE border on punk rock terrordome with
chopped up beats the speed of lightning, screams of misplaced authority,
and rejuvenating blasts of sonic electricity. THE BRAN (...) POS
celebrates the release of a bran new CD 3XX3 available May 2001 from
Chitah! Chitah!
Soundcrack. ALL PROFITS FROM BRAN CD SALES THIS EVENING TO BENEFIT RAWA!

DEEP DICKOLLECTIVE
The fag has entered and the cypher is stalled.
The anti-gangster aesthetic of quasi-Nationalist "conscious"
hip-hoppers and bohemian MC thrift shoppers pave a space for D/DC to
articulate its word play. They represent a political lyricism that does
not take itself too seriously. they are the brave mavericks of a movement
that some affectionately refer to as homo-hop. They are Oxymoronic "out"
black queer Emcees the world says do not exist. They are the rumblings of
a revolution that have for too long been silenced. Overstand? It's not
that deep.

CONE
featuring members of Zmrzlina in a more free form version of their
experimental take on pop/rock/electronica. a number of musicians, dj's,
and visual artists are invited to add to the fray. The
musicians involved often layer their instruments on top of found sounds
and samples, and sampled beats.

SPEZZA ROTTO
Spezza Rotto is an ferociously absurdist mix of rock, noise, 21st Century
opera and dada concepts. All lyrics for the band have been translated into
Italian via an on-line language translation program. Rising from the
ashes of Eskimo, The Molecules, and Optimist International, Spezza Rotto
has arrived.
