Ugh, thats terrible calling the RDJ album shotty, you're nuts, and I usually wouldn't call someone stupid for their opinions, (though Plaid tests my will), there is something wrong with you if you can't see the brillance of RDJa. That is one of the penultimate records of electronica. I don't mean to flame, its just I think you should haul ass to your cd player and try again. And I think SAWII is good for what it is, I doubt Aphex ever intended it to be anything than an AMBIENT work. On Fri, 20 Apr 2001 audax@mb.sympatico.ca wrote:

Furthermore, i would say that SAWII is one of, if not the best ambient album ever made. The atmosphere that almost drips from the tracks, ranging from awe and beauty to creeping horror is astounding. I thought for awhile that making ambient tracks would be easy, and after experimenting came to realize that holding down a track with four or six sounds and keeping it interesting for seven or eight minutes is an amazing feat. Plus the samples, have you ever heard sounds like that before? good god, id like to know how he produced those..... That's my SAWII rant. cdin --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

I think everything that RDJ has done has been pretty damn impressive... except for SAWII. I dunno... I'm willing to just say "it's just my genes, man"... but most of the tracks off SAWII sound, to me, like taking a single layer from Eno's "Another Green World" or "Music for Airports", isolating, and calling it a track. Not to say this is necessarily a bad idea, but for some reason, none of it really connects with me. On the other hand, the more ambient-ish/downbeat track "Pancake Lizard" (off "Donkey Rhubard") is an amazing, moving track -- as just one of many examples. YMMV, as always. ======================================================================= Brian MacDonald <brianm@kuci.org> ======================================================================= --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

I beg to differ. SAWII is some of the most beutifull and haunting peices of ambience i have ever heard, just give rhubarb or lichen a quick spin. And while we are discussing SAW II , can some one recomend some similar music. P.S. im listening to Aurora(merk) , and im affraid to say that it is not as cool as SAWII. regards, teardropb icq - 55962348 irc #reaktor, #electronic-musicians on DALnet

Forget "Pancake Lizard," man. It's all about the actual A side... "Donkey Rhubarb" is probably my favorite Aphex Twin track ever, with "Windowlicker" as a very close second. As much as I enjoy his less goofy / more ambient stuff, the lunatic side of his work entertains me far more... which is why I'm glad to listen to albums from IDM producers with a sense of humor. Try "vrs.mbnt.pcs.9598.I" by Jochem Paap on FAX. A bit darker than SAW II, but still very beautiful and organic. Nick. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

S.A.W. II is also great for, lets see ... uh, how about ... reaching new levels of conciousness. This is and always will be my favorite collection of songs. Confield, on the other hand, is perfect for those who have always wanted to try the "CD in the Microwave" thing, or are out of shit wipes. -- - Nintari Man On Sat, 21 Apr 2001, Doug wrote:
