Seattle... JAM records..(Wallingford)... 45 St. between Bagley and Corliss, next to a big glass TacoTime. Great downtempo, hip-hop, idm, breaks, dance vinyl section... also good indie/experimental rock. Beats International..(Capitol Hill)... E Olive Way... near the corner of Summit. ALL sorts of house.. especially weirder house, electronica (idm), hip hop, breaks, tech, etc. There's a drum&bass/jungle offshoot store of Beats International just up a block or two from Beats. Int... which is actually the main store's previous location. Platinum Records..(Capitol Hill)... Pike St., just east of Broadway. A little of everything... house, techno, booty bass, downtempo/experimental, hip-hop. DJ equipment. Frequency 8.. (Capitol Hill)... on Broadway, near corner of Roy. Mostly trance, tech, hardcore... just started a little breaks section. Orpheum records.. (Capitol Hill)... on Broadway, at corner of Roy ,across the street from Frequency 8. Mostly rock record store, with club vinyl on second floor. No listening stations. Sonic Boom records.. (Fremont)... on Fremont Ave., just north of 35th St. Mostly indie rock... but decent electronic CD section, and small vinyl section. No listening stations. Fallout records..(Capitol Hill).. E Olive way... west of Summit corner, just down the block from Beats International. Mostly punk, garage, etc. but some occasional weirdo records. No listening stations. There's a lot of OK used CD/vinyl stores on the Avenue in the University District. Nothing too memorable, though. Tacoma... No idea. ======================================================================= Brian MacDonald <brianm@kuci.org> ======================================================================= --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

don't want to forget wall of sound on the corner of 2nd and bell. some good idm and then alot of great stuffs in a more experimental vein (plus jazz and world stuffs) got some vinyl in the 2nd room also... to be honest, the tower records in the university district is pretty damn good in regards to idm also. a bit spendy at times, but they have a surprisingly nice selection of stuffs there and i'm always surprised that it doesn't get a mention when people ask about seattle record stores. of course, the tower in seattle center sucks ass for idm (sorry, but they do!)

i just moved to Seattle in March and went to the above per recommendation from this list. I will NEVER NEVER NEVER step foot in the store again. One of the most rude group of employees i have ever run across in my endless exposure to USA retail- the blokes epitomized the higher than thou attitude so often stereotyped with record store employees. Your mileage may very, but i was floored by the way they treated their customers like SHIT. ugh. oh and there ambient/experimental section sucked. All the others you listed (below) are right on, and worth checking imo as well. But you did forget my favorite record store of them all- Wall Of Sound in downtown Seattle, 2237 2nd Street. A fantastic selection of idm, ambient, and lots of experimental/uncategorizable. Plus a great world music section if you happen to be after that. The best of all worlds imho. Tell em Thad sent you! ;) -Thad on now- Out Of Perspective: Compilation (on Soup-disk)
