well usually i stay as far away as possible from baited questions like this one but for a change i'll think i'll drop my lonely two cents into the mix... i grew up as a performer - playing 'concert music' as a soloist, in small chamber groups, and with orchestras. when i go to a 'live performance' i like to see people actually playing instruments because that is where my musical roots are from. usually when i go see 'live' electronic dance music i am severely disappointed - i don't think there is anything morally wrong about playing back soundfiles of pre-recorded tracks, its just not very much fun to see in that environment. so i have spent a great deal of time and effort to create a software instrument for myself that i can use to play live dance music (emphasis on dance). i have real-time control over all of the musical elements involved, which makes it easy to react to a crowd - if people respond to a particular sound or rhythm i will make more out of it. and usually when i play i am having just as much fun (if not more) dancing behind my computer than the people out in front. what does it all mean? not a damn thing. i like to dance though...
