sure, "tides" is a great album in its own right, and i don't think that uwe's biting off of anybody else, but damn, some of those tracks sound boardsy. especially that fourth track with the voices? i think it's the fourth track. listening to styrofoam's "murder" album (again! =). this truly wonderful stuff. is it true that he's going to have another full length out this year? the use of vocals and vocal samples on this album is just so perfect. i don't think there's been anything from morr that i've been disappointed with. both phonem releases are amazing. same with the styrofoam. and everything else, really. can't wait to hear more of this year's offerings. alan! Um, it's not rocket science. Throw your synths through a vinyl filter (try playing with iZotope Vinyl ... you'll see), and make sure that each instrument is slightly out of tune. Instant talentless BOC, no need for a contest :) -- Nintari Man

May I respectfully take to issue something in popular diction that has bothered me for ages? What's so difficult about rocket science such that it's tied to the very famous cliche that warrants a comparison to something virtually impossible? I'm guessing some genetic engineers get involved with work more difficult than those who study possible ways to design rockets. How come nobody says "C,mon. it's not genetic engineering!"? Anybody know a real rocket scientist? Does he or she ever explain a task to a fellow peer prefacing it with "I mean, this isn't rocket science!... oh wait, it is." ? Is Andy Rooney in the house, yo? ======================================================================= Brian MacDonald <brianm@kuci.org> " ... I, I don't know, man ... a'mean, if God dropped acid, do you think he'd see you? ... " ======================================================================= On Sat, 17 Mar 2001, Nintari Man wrote:

Well, to be honest, I thought that Josh's (marumari) 'boards of canada remixes' that his friend released on napster sounded pretty darn similar to Boards of Canada. Or marumari's version of boards of canada with new equipment :D The original poster (josh) probably thought it would be something fun to do. geez. get off it people. I like the boards of canada sound, and I'd love it if there was more of it. There's only so much "glitch" that one person can stand. indestinguishable... Machine Drum "Izey Rael" from the Squadron comp is what you need :) It sounds *exactly* like BoC (beats, warm pads, laughing children etc), but here the copy is maybe even better than the original. At least it's better than any track from BoC's latest EP. I don't think you can call Arrovane a boards of canada clone or imitation. Their both into IDM okay, but I think arrovane sounds real different. On tides Arrovane covers a wide variety of sounds On the A side 1 Theme sounds a bit like Markant/Mutta 2 is a bit loungy, maybe that is a bit in the BOC style. 3 Tides has a BOC but also a Toytronic sound 4 Tomorow morning, sounds lik BOC (okay there is a bit of a similair touch to there is album a the BOC stuff) 5 seaside, Is more a bit ambient like rothko and KraaK. Side B : 6 a secret, is a bit more the Markant sound with some faint sniff of BOC(the arangements) 7.the storm, sound a lot like Massive Atack (teardrops, without the vocals) 8: deaville, sounds lika arrovane =0) and the last track 9 epilogue, sound a bit more like Markant/Mutta again The rest of the Arrovane tracks i have/know sound like down tempo Autechtre like IDM theiz --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
