His album on ~Scape 'Nek Sanskelet'(the spelling may be off) would probably be a good place to start and its probably the easiest of his works to come by. Oh yeah, and if you ever get to see Kit Clayton live: GO!!!!!!! I saw him along with Chessie and Stewart Walker on the formless form tour last year and was incredible. I picked up a 12" on parallel by i-liner which is kit clayton and jason (I can't remember his last name), its a very dance floor ready release and not very a kin to what I'm use to from kit clayton. its a good record though, safety in numbers.net may have a few copies left. I would try betalounge.com for some sets by kit, I think he's done a few for them ____________________________________________ p l u m b d e s i g n Adesh Deosaran | Information Designer 157 chambers st ny ny 10007 p.212-285-8600 x240 f.212-285-8999 -----Original Message----- From: i [mailto:interdit@yahoo.com] Sent: Friday, February 23, 2001 2:54 PM To: idm@hyperreal.org Subject: Re: [idm] kit clayton Or also Nek Purpalet, which I believe came just before that... very accessible --- component <component@mindstorm.com> wrote:

Yes, Nek Sanalet is fantastic. I've been on a Kit Clayton kick the last week or so, and it's been in constant rotation in my car.

I wholeheartedly agree. Kit Clayton live last year in Detroit (on the formless form tour) was phenomenal. I'd always liked "surba", the 8th track on Nek Sanalet, but seeing him play that live took my appreciation to a whole new level. A couple of links that I think people might like: My review of Nek Sanalet: http://www.chromedecay.org/writing/neksanalet_review.htm My review of the formless form tour's Detroit date: http://www.chromedecay.org/writing/formlessform-review.htm Betalounge's past show archive - the October 31, 2000 performance is great. I burned a CD-R of it & have been listening in my car as well, and it shows what a good job Kit does of putting his live material together, plus you get to see Sue Costabile's visuals if you have the bandwidth: http://www.betalounge.com/cgi-bin/betalounge/past.pl Cheers, Bill -- http://www.chromedecay.org --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

What do you think of "Repetition and Nonsense" on Drop Beat? Is that any good? I've only heard it once or twice, since I don't own it. As I remember, there were a couple of tracks at the end that I really enjoyed, but on the whole it seemed much more straight-up "techno" than other stuff of Kit's that I've heard. I appreciate his experimental-leaning material more - Nek Sanalet, and the material on his Vertical Form 12", for example. Perhaps someone could comment on the side of his material that's drastically more experimental - I haven't heard the 4mod3 CDor the "live on shortwave radio" CD on Pthalo. How do those compare with the rest of his work? if you go to the orthlorg music web site, you can find four mp3s by kit clayton, of the 12" on that label he helps run. The cd he did last year on pathlo is awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!! same vein as his relase on scape, but in my opinion more delays and reverds and just more kit clayton on the experimental dubby techno trip. I think the cd is titled something about simplicity or what-not, dont remember, but it was limited to 250cdrs, nag pathlo maybe they will repress it. fuck i wish i had alot of money to buy everything released. scott_allison multimedia_designer mediacentric_group --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Talking about Phthalo, I'd like to run a small survey about this label. What releases on that label do you find most compelling? I only have Phthalocyanine's Navy Warship which I thought was good but not great (though I haven't listened to it a lot/it's been a long time since I did... I should maybe update my impressions...) Seemed a bit amateur and aimless... But it did have a couple of interesting ideas. -- Guillaume Grenier - gollum@videotron.ca in space there is no north in space there is no south in space there is no east in space there is no west --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Daedelus: Her's is > [sic], Phthalo 34. It's coming out in a few months. Exceptional work. You should ask Dimitri (dimitri@phthalo.com) about ordering it. The other two Phthalo releases I have are Libythth: dissolve-a-diamond, Phthalo 20 Kit Clayton: Kit Clayton live on shortwave radio_kalx 90.7fm, Phthalo 17 Ths Kit Clayton is *NOISE*. Pure and simple. Long digital manipulations of noise and static. Not too pleasant to my ears but it has a purpose, I think of it as inverse ambient music, whatever that would be... The Libythth is pretty interesting. Very similiar to Phthalocyanine's stuff but a little less raw and it has a fresh bit of humor. I'd recommend it.

I really like Navy Warship. It's funny because I've had *very* similar sentiments to both you and David but after multiple listens I agree fully with David. Dimitri (Phthalocyanine) is one of the great artists of our time (he also makes paintings that look a lot like his music sounds). -------------------- -l[e^2] *new { ^this.shouldNotImplement(thisMethod) } --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
