Man.. what's wrong with IDM? Part of the joy of life is condescending and talking down to others. It's right up there with sex and food. If anything, I suggest we emphasize the name.. maybe... My Music Is Better Than Yours You Ignorant Turd Music, or perhaps Are You Fucking Stupid? You Seem Like You Are Music. I'm sure we could keep going with these sorts of names... perhaps something simple yet effective like I Am Better Than You Music. Anyway. The goal, of course, of any sort of subculture or genre of music is to exclude as many people as possible because, let's be honest here, elitism and exclusivism simply rule and there's no better feeling than to look smugly at the rest of the world know, yes, you're better than them, and you damn well know it. np: something better than whatever you're listening to -------------------------------------------------------------------- Mail2Web - Check your email from the web at http://www.mail2web.com/ . --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Sure. I think y'all people need to get over it. They use IDM as a genre slot in MAGAZINES now. God damn Alan Parry's boney white ass for it, but we're stuck. Somewhere (In XLR8R?) Claire from Clear was using IDM as a genre term. Before they started using 'Electronica' was the name of a mailing list. As soon as a few people start tossing a term around on the internet, it is ripe for appropriation. It's only a matter of time before we see IDM tumbling out of Barbara Wallace's mouth. I am keen on seeing the Richard D. James Barbara Walter interview though. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Point taken, but those of us who plan to make some money out of this game kinda need to spread the whole scene as wide as possible. So I've got a compromise. We'll come up with a name that has some hidden insulting meaning that only us 'true' idm fans know about. That way we can laugh at the suckers' ignorance, while at the same time taking all their money. Sounds like heaven. Hew
