Hello. I'm making a school subject about idm and ambient music; its current situation, history, styles/genres and the the most important idm artists. I need especially info about the beginning of the whole idm thing. So, if anyone has any links, information or anything, I would be pleased to hear some. Thank you. Here's a brief history of techno I wrote: http://www.gridface.com/features/techno.htm Keep in mind the term "idm" was coined simply by the creation of this very mailing list. A little more info. on the origins of the list are here: http://www.hyperreal.org/music/lists/idm/info.html Regards, Jacob -----Original Message----- Date: Thu, 08 Feb 2001 14:33:23 +0200 To: idm@hyperreal.org From: Ilkka =?iso-8859-1?Q?H=E4nninen?= <jean9@phreaker.net> Subject: A school subject Message-Id: <5.0.2.1.0.20010208142749.00a0c1b0@postilaatikko.saunalahti.fi> Hello. for a good history/analysis of ambient music, check out 'ocean of sound' by david toop, himself a musician. nobody has written a very good history of idm just yet ; of course simon reynolds devotes a chapter or two to it in his classic book 'generation ecstacy', but the fact that he personally dislikes idm makes him an unpopular reference on this list. on the web, check allmusic.com and techno.ca, and even the links below, although i wouldn't rely too heavily on either of them. good luck ! .af.
