ok i'll have to spoil the secret. making bouncing ball noises is really, really, really easy.. you can do it with any midi sequencer, you just have to be patient, algorhythms my ass... just go in real close on your sequencer and make every note a little bit shorter in distance to the next in a pattern, tighter and tighter till they make a little line, if you sit with it enough, and tweak (takes 5 min max), then play with the pan, you will have aphex, ae bouncing balls.. or take an sh101(or any other real analog) use the arpeggio, and make a bass kick like sound, then start the lfo/clock so its real slow, and then make it faster, this is the bouncing effect used in parts of the autechtre peel sessions from the amber era....it is just that simple peace -pete In a message dated 1/16/01 10:39:41 PM Eastern Standard Time, vuzh@peakpeak.com writes:

And for all you math posers out there, the function for falling objects (i.e. gravity) is an exponential function, therefore if you apply an exponential curve over the triggering of a sample, you can have all the wonder of math and science that our god RDJ brought us by commercially releasing a recording of the sound of a ball bouncing. As a side note. I know Aphex gets wayyyy too much play on this list, still, so many years after he has publicly declared he's going to stop putting out records. Well, obviously he still makes music. Rumor has it that he's on the SuperCollider list. Well, last week this persona (who most have agreed *is* RDJ) said some really fucked up things about raping women. After he got called on it he was totally unapologetic, and even more of an asshole. Then to make things even stranger, he starting actually talking about SC, quite intelligently. So here we have an asshole that talks the talk that's on an esoteric computer music mailing list. I think all of you fan boys should get up and send a message to eric_hard_jams@btinternet.com Oh, yeah, and don't buy any more Aphex records, he's an offensive prick. -l on 1/16/01 8:21 PM, CAPOIIEE@aol.com at CAPOIIEE@aol.com wrote:

Oh, man, you are the coolest dude on this list. I can't believe you've actually spoken to Richard. My whole life revolves around the day that i'll meet him. I bet he burps and farts just like everyone else. With your far reaching connections, and your vast knowledge of Super Collider, you must have some amazing records under your belt. I know I sure don't. I'm still a math poser. Maybe one day people like me and Dave Segal will be half as cool as you. maybe i shouldn't have said all this, it's pretty shitty. I'm sorry in advance. But it seems to me that you are awfully condescending to the very people that are supportive of you in the real world. peace, really. -petey

First off, thank you for supporting me. But I'm curious why you think I'm the coolest dude on this list...? I never made such claims. Also, I think you are mistaken about my output of recorded material, I don't have that much, but I will let you know as soon as I release something. I am also a fairly new SuperCollider user, and I'm still building my foundation in OOP. These days I much prefer to use MAX/MSP, especially for live performance. The graphical system makes the learning curve much more level. Lastly, I'm just curious, did you read my original post? From your words below it seems like you read the first line and replied shortly thereafter. I sympathize with your insecurities. I too was once intimidated by strangers. I don't think you have anything to worry about though, as most people adjust to this kind of social anxiety when they leave their teenage years behind. I also had a common disorder when I first began using email lists, where I would feel comfortable saying mean and distasteful things since I couldn't actually see the people I was writing to. After a few months, I chilled out a little and became more accustomed to online communication. I then began to develop meaningful relationships in online forums and not take them for granted. This comes with experience, so you just need to spend a little more time online. Before you post anything, you just need to ask yourself "would I say this in public? Would I say this to another person if they were standing in front of me?" If the answer is no, then you should reconsider posting it to a public forum. cheers, Lee on 1/17/01 4:18 PM, peter chavez at dspeter5000@hotmail.com wrote:

sorry to chime in, but I feel I must. I would guess that during this recent display of misogyny by many of the male members of this list, for example the comment "gives the hens something to cluck about" which is obviously degrading and invalidating of women's feelings, and in fact implies that women are merely animals rather than human, many of the women here are wondering why they ever subscribed and why they should now stay. I would personally like to register my support for the original poster who felt offended by RDJ's comments and all of the women who find jokes about rape, molestation, sexual assault and violence against women distasteful, offensive and in fact display true hatred of women by the people who make them and laugh at them and then defend them being made in the first place. Now, what would be helpful in determining true responsibility for the offense would be to hear from an impartial witness, exactly what was said, but based on the impression that she got, I would venture that whatever RDJ said, it was out of line and he should have bit his arrogant egotistical tongue. So what I would like to ask, is that people on this list, especially the sexist offensive pricks, keep your comments to the subject of music only, and then maybe there will be some information presented in the list that will provide a good reason for the women here to stick around. That comment about the hens was really the same thing as the old racist jokes likening certain minorities to monkeys etc... --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

I'm sure that the women list readers will now remain subscribed, thanks to your chivalrous defense of their honor.

I personally go for the "innocent until proven guilty" approach myself (even in cases in which the identity of an e-mail account can be verified to a reasonable amount of certainty, which is not entirely the case here), but if you have the whit of resourcefulness you need to locate the archives for the mailing list in question, the pertinent discussion occurs in volume one, numbers 224 and 225. -rob --- "This program posts news to thousands of machines throughout the entire civilized world. Apologies for continuing this thread, but judging from the amount of personal e-mail/four-letter words that have ended up in my lap since yesterday, I suspect there are many of you out there who completely missed the point of my message. The problem I had with Josh's post is that, while sincere and well-meaning, I found it to be patronizing. By trying to curb the behavior of "many of the male members of this list" in order to "provide a good reason for the women here to stick around," Josh inadvertently puts women into a special, thin-skinned class that needs to be protected from the marauding band of "sexist offensive pricks." Well guess what? Sexism comes in different forms and flavors in our society and the knight-in-shining-armor routine is an example of one of the oldest and most insidious forms around. Hence, I ask all those in high horse cavalcade formation to do a quick check to make sure you're on the right side. -rob slightly on-topic postscript- is all of this United States of America name-checking in the Broadcast thread in reference to Joe Byrd's 60s combo that had tangential relationship to the NY minimalists? --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

whats wrong with sexual relations with animals, hell, to your dog its just another way of shaking his/her paw, scratching his back and at max he'll forget about it after 6 months not so with a woman (not advocating beastiality, just rationalizing two disturbing ideas, at least to me, you people do what you want, since, with the power of the web, i'll never see you) and if i saw richard james, id kick 'im in the nuts and steal his mac, so id have what ever he was working on(hopefully no kiddy porn, uhh:) _________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

yet again, another foolish boy asumes there are no members of the(ir)opossite sex on this list. women getting raped is in no way funny, while men getting raped, thats another story. _________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

We have a friend called 'mess', a name well deserved. He is prone to frequent mention of (amongst other things) raping his mother. Sex with dogs and children. "I wonder if they have to pay that nigger to stay inside because he's so black" Now, I'm not exactly 'down' with his style, but the truth is, he doesn't believe what he's saying... he gets a kick out of watching people's reactions, and is more than happy to dish out the same sort of nonsense about himself or any other european male. The truth is, in reality he his one of the most accepting people I know. There is a lot of subtle prejudice, and people can often be sexist or racist because of their upbringing or environment, even though they are good people and aren't really aware of what they're doing. Our friend, for all he says, displays none of this, he gets along with anyone, from any demographic, moreso than anyone else I know. Now, I don't know if RDJ is the same, perhaps he is a complete prick after all, but I've always had a feeling that these two would get along quite well :) Anyway, excusing the lengthy post, I'd have to say, joke or not (and offensive or not, for that matter), if its not music related, then its inappropriate for such lists, and it doesn't really matter whether he's talking about sexual assault or cleaning his car... --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
