I just wanted to note that the ignorance shown by many people on this list in that women and IDM thread pretty much disproved anybody's high-flung notions that people who listen to IDM are more intelligent than the general populous. The very idea that women don't like music unless it's candy-coated for them sounds like something from the 20's- I can't believe some chinstrokin asshole ist still carrying the notion around today. I'd honestly say that as many if not more of the girls that I know who are into electronic music are into IDM- damn near every girl I know owns a copy of Music Has the Right to Children. And I'm pretty sure that those girls who don't own it wouldn't like it any better if it were, uh, "candy coated" for them. now what was the point of that post? I thought mine had a point, as underlying as it may have been. I guess I'm being MAD hypocritical. But what I meant to say was, artists are just people. I think a deterrent to this bullshit, which this message is a part of, is for us to care more about the art together, to evalute it on artistic terms, and to put an end to the 'pretentious' ego-hustlin' image of IDM. If well all only talked about music on this list, it would be such a nicer place.
