I am part of this group as well, with my first experience in "industrial" being Fad Gadget. . . good ole Frank Tovey made me realize that there was something to this whole synth nonsense (makes me feel sorta old thinking about those days) :). I soon moved on to Cabaret Voltair, E.N., Gristle, Skinny Puppy (and related works) and on and on and on. . . My first experimentation with idm as it were (well, more like ambient I guess) came with the early Richard H. Kirk solo releases, of which I then moved on towards autechre, rdj, and other miscellaneous things . . . Recently I have returned to listening to some of the more powernoise style industrial and spent less time purchasing wonderfully seductive idm releases (other than Uwe / Rather Interesting stuff cuz MrTangent has gotten me addicted and I can't stop myself). . mostly ant-zen releases. . .noisex, P.A.L. etc. Admittedly it can be less than "intelligent" at times, but there is something about it that makes it fit rather well with my current life's soundtrack. I have never actually liked NIN nor given them much a listen, in fact, the only album I have ever been able to listen to repeatedly is fixed, which is quite good imo. Pretty much everything else he has done hasnt really hit me enough to make me want to listen to it. . . oh well In conclusion, i will close by reiterating what many have recommended Haujobb. I have been a big fan of them for quite some time and recommend everything except ninetynine and the remix wars (vs. Wumpscut, who i kinda enjoy normally). I am also very fond of the newest noisex ep (Serial Killer). Other than the first (quite ambient), and second (classic noisex noise) tracks, the other tracks stretch into the domain of idm with a mixture of techno bleeps and beats with some harsh bass lines and samples. Take care folks, -tin np: Nightmare Before Christmas Soundtrack (woo, big screen again) --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

I am part of this group as well, i started listening to Skinny Puppy (lots of), Front LineAssembly, Front 242, Schnits Acht, Ministry, Revolting Cocks, ... And some Industrial / Metal like Carcass, Obituary, Machine Head and the likes. Then came Autechre "Amber", Aphex "...I Care Because You Do", Orbital "Snivilisation" and FSOL "Lifeforms"... They opened a whole new world for me. :) Even though i still listen to Skinny Puppy and side projects, mainly Download. >i wonder how many people have become aware of idm >through >industrial. Count me in. I was and I am fan of Ministry, Scorn, Fear Factory, Einsturzende Neubauten, Godflesh and others. I can be called Metal to Techno transformed person. From Napalm Death I moved to Scorn and then to Autechre. From My Dying Bride and Entombed I turned to LSG and Emmanuel Top and then to Aphex Twin and Squarepusher. Life's unpredictable miracles... 8) btw. new Napalm Death proclaiming hatred to greedy show business (It is obvious they mean Earache Records with whom they finally ceased relationships stipulated by many years' contract) is excellent....for those who are ready to dig it of course - grind core is back! I found it a natural progression from industrial to techno. I was into Throbbing Gristle Psychic TV, Coil, Einsteurzende Neubauten and especially Skinny Puppy, among others. Still love them all. I went from goth via industrial to techno. Never got out of the habit of wearing all black though. I know I started out with industrial (especially the bands listed above) as well as many WaxTrax! releases. Listening to these eventually gave way to hearing Aphex Twin & Autechre and then getting into Skam, Warp and other IDM. later4now! numb _________________________________________________________________________ This mail sent via toadmail.com, web e-mail @ ToadNet - want to go fast? http://www.toadmail.com --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
